Tv Tuner Problem?

Ok I just bought a new computer and now I am having problems with the TV Tuner on it. First of all I have another Xp Media Center computer downstairs with a Tv Tuner. Anyway to watch my dish network on that all I did was run a coax cable to the TV IN on the back of that tv tuner and I went to channel 3 and it worked. But I just bought an HP Slimline With a tv tuner. But I have been trying to set it up the same way but on the TV tuner that came on THIS computer it does not have a tv in. So I think that is why it had not been working. But it does have to coax inputs called CATV and ATSC. So how to i hook my dish network up to those to inputs and have the channel be active.

Tv "off" but I hear static on my lcd tv. I have more problems in the mornings and afternoons then at night.

I have problems with my lcd tv turning off by itself. I can usually turn it right back on though. Sometimes it will come on by itself too so before I go to bed I completely unplug it.Yesterday morning when I woke up I plugged it back in and the blue power button wouldn't come on. But when I got close to the tv I could hear light static coming through the speakers. But the tv wouldn't come on and I couldn't turn it on at all. I made sure the power cord was in good and I didn't keep my tv unplugged. Couple hours later all of a sudden the blue light on the front of the tv came on. I turned the tv on and it stayed on about 20 minutes. Then it flipped back off. About an hour later the power button came back on. By this time it was pretty late in the evening and it stayed on. It didn't flip off again until midnight. It's very weird because I notice the pattern that my tv flips on and off more in the mornings and afternoons. Then in the late evenings I have very little problems with it

Why all LCD TV are wide screen, making TV program actors so short and fat? why not design as traditional TV?

Why all LCD TV are wide screen, making TV program actors so short and fat? why not design as traditional TV square screen?

Someone said is for Movie, but not most of the TV shows still not wide screen, even when Playing DVD movie, it fills up the whole wide screen but sub title is out from screen.

Why LCD TV design such stupid way? I still don't find any good for wide screen design.

anyone can answer my question?

thanks.

Why all LCD TV are wide screen, making TV program actors so short and fat? why not design as traditional TV?
It sounds like you don't have your LCD TV set up properly. The only reason the actors are short and fat is due to the aspect ratio that your unit is set to. Step through the various aspect ratios until you find one that makes the actors appear normal. You do need to be aware that it is NORMAL to see black bars on the left and right of 4:3 programming when set to the proper aspect ratio.

As for why wide screen, it is because programming - both video via DVD and HD broadcasts are wide screen. If you have a wide screen DVD and have set everything up properly you should not have the sub title cut off. You may have it set to zoom mode.
Reply:Widescreen tvs mostly have a picture adjust button to adjust the viewing size from 4.3 (normal tv) to 16.9 (widescreen) and usually a zoom as well. With digital tv and high defenition now widescreen is awesome.
Reply:Sounds like you don't have the TV set up correctly

you have 4:3 postcard , 4:3 letterbox , 4:3 cropped , 16:9 widescreen these setings are on one tv plus other settings too
Reply:the reaon all lcd's are widescreen is because all modern programs are filmed in either 16.9 letterbox format so getting a 4.3 screen would cut about a 1/3 of the screen off

Hope this helps
Reply:A wide screen format has been chosen because your eyes are more comforatble viewing that shape.

as far as actors being short and fat, you really should read the manual before you use your electronic products.

TV, Money, disagreement.....?

We started out looking for a bigger TV for the bedroom. We went to a couple of places and all of a sudden my husband has it in his head that we should get a bigger TV for the living room instead and move the entire TV and stand into the bedroom. It went from spending $300-$400 to practically $2000. We already have a big TV in the living room so my feelings is we don't need one. But he's in there, watching TV and kind of sulking (not bad, he just really wants it) because I am against the new TV for the living room. Should I just give in and let him spend $2000 that we really don't have on a TV that we definitely don't need? Or should I hold my ground and push for just a less expensive, MUCH less expensive, TV for the bedroom?

TV, Money, disagreement.....?
Sorry to have to go against a fellow man but I think you should stick to your guns and advocate for the one you went shopping for in the first place. Them damn TV stores are so alluring and tempting to all and don't mind giving it to you with the old no money down scam. Well most people realize that they are not doing you any favour by this offer and make up for it once the payments are to begin. Good luck to you and hopefully your man will realize that you are right and being fiscally responsible someday.
Reply:WOW... totally a guy thing! First of all , do you really need a large t.v. in the bedroom? The first thing I think of is having to decorate around it. BUT.. the important thing is that your hubby is happy. I would tell him you think we need to wait and think about it. Besides, the best deals are after Thanksgiving. If it is an impulse buy (just to compete) maybe he will change his mind.

Best of Luck!
Reply:Men like their "stuff". If your mortgage or rent is paid and you can afford the bigger TV, then let him have it. You'll reap the rewards of being the "cool" wife and you can milk it for a while!
Reply:Your right, why spend money you don't really have.
Reply:Make a deal with him.

If he really "needs" or wants this TV then mention something you really "need" or want that you'd like to get for yourself as well.

Men are so huge on electronics. It's like a part of them. To keep them from them is really hard on them.

Maybe you could even show him the income vs the outgo of the money and bills and then tell him exactly what he'd need to 1. save for the TV or 2. work harder to pay it off or make up for the loss of money towards it.

Those are just a few solutions.

Saying absolutely no to him would be like him saying absolutely no to you getting that beautiful dress and matching shoes you've wanted for a long time... or saying no to you getting your hair cut, colored and styled. I know electronics can cost a lot more, but hey, men are expensive in that area and women are expensive in their up-keep.
Reply:Stick to your guns sweetie!! we men always pout when we don't get our way. if you don't have the money, you don't have the money!!! There have been plenty of times when I gave into my wife and it has caused even bigger problems. with money. besides isn't the bedroom for things other than watching tv? go give him some loven and he will forget for now Good Luck

Tv Aerial?

The antenna input of my tv has sort of come loose to when i watch analogue tv when digital tv desides not to work. But i get a poor picture with analogue tv now.. Is there a way to fix it without getting a new tv? Like now... Theres a storm so digital tv wont work so i switch to analogue which works fine. I just need to know how to fix the tv aerial so i dont have to take it to a tv place and pay a rediculous price for something that i could possibly do myself

Tv Aerial?
What's probably happened is the Antenna Input going into your TV's Tuner has broken loose from where it was soldered in.This is a very common problem. You can try to place a Washer over the threaded stub, and place it against the back of your TV, then, get a Nut that will thread onto it, and gently screw it onto the Stub. Then, once it's almost tight, hold the Stub in place with a pair of Needle nose Pliers so it won't move, then, take a small crescent wrench, and tighten the Nut tightly to the back of the set.If you tighten the Nut without securing the Stub, it will just twist right off. This may or may not work, and it will only be a temporary fix. Does your TV have RCA type Video and Audio inputs ? If so, then maybe you can hook your Antenna into a DVD or VCR, and use it to change Channels, and just set your TV for Video or Aux Input. The only other alternative is to have the Connector re soldered, or the Tuner to your TV replaced, and yes, that will cost some Money.Hope this helps !
Reply:I had the same problem but this was when the digital top boxes just came out and it didnt cost me that much, i spent £45 and that was new wire, ariel, and labour as it took them around twenty five minutes.
Reply:Buy a new TV Feb, 14-09 all of America's going digital anyway, it will just be snow then, fixed or not!

Direct TV and Samsung LCD TV?

Hello, I recently setup my DirectTV Receiver to my LCD TV using the S-Video and Audio Cables (Red, White). Everything is working fine but I do I get true S-Video connectivity while the coaxial cable is plugged into ANT 1 In (Air) terminal on the back of the TV from the DirectTV Receiver "Out To TV"? If I am getting true S-Video connectivity while the coaxial cable is running from the back of the DriectTV Receiver (Out to TV) and into the back of the TV ANT 1 In Air please explain how? I tried

unplugging the cable from the back of the TV (ANT 1 In (AIR) but I do not receive a signal even after running through the reconfiguration on the TV. The "Satellite In" cable on the back of the DirectTV receiver is obviously plugged in. The simple chart DirectTV user guide shows that the "Antenna In" connection, on the back of the TV and the "Out to TV" coaxial connection on the back of the DirecTV Receiver is not applied when using the S-Video connection and the Red, White Audio connection. Lastly

Direct TV and Samsung LCD TV?
Well first unhook the coax cable completely...it will give you the worst picture of all available options. This is because after decoding your selected channel it remodulates the signal to RF (normally channel 3) which you TV then has to decode again.

If you have the S-Video cable hooked up it will be on a different input than your TV was previously set. Instead of Ant 1 try using the input button to get to Video 1, Video 2...etc until you see a picture from your cable box.

Also, if you are using an LCD TV, it is likely capable of high def which your DirectTV box will not output over Coax or S-Video. You will have to use component cables (Red, Green, Blue), or a HDMI connection.

Good luck, post again for more help.

MikeC
Reply:everything mike said is correct but dont get too excited about the component or hdmi because if the tvs new but the sat box isnt then your sat box is probobly digital only and will not have component or hdmi outputs. if you have subscribed to HD services thru dtv and you know your sat box is HD then you definetly want to get component or hdmi video cables. Svideo will not work for HD. but if you sat box is not HD and you know that, then just stick to mikes recomendations for svideo hook up.

LCD TV Problem or Xbox 360?

I have a Philips 26in LCD tv. Well when I turn the tv to AV1 in order to play my xbox 360 I can here sound but the screen remains black. I have plugs for AV1, AV2, and AV3 , HDMI on the back of my tv, as well as the standard yellow, red, and white plugs on the side of my tv. I have even bought a new set of HD Universal plugs, and tried those as well on the tv but had no luck in getting it to work. I called microsoft and they couldnt help me to get it to work nor could the Philips phone support.

What could be the problem? I need some feedback, because this is really frustrating. I can watch cable tv with no problem. I dont get whats wrong. Plz give me as much feedback as possible.

LCD TV Problem or Xbox 360?
I would wager that the video connection isn't working. You said you have the connections on the side, so I suggest plugging your cables into that spot then changing the correct input. That should do it. Otherwise, the next issue would be your cables.
Reply:It might be the Xbox, a hardware video thing

they've got guides on this now, so dont worry about it
Reply:It might be the Xbox 360.

If you have more than one TV, try plugging the 360 into another TV to see if it is the problem. Then you will know if its your TV or 360.
Reply:Switch it from standard def to high def via the switch on the power cord

Stole a tv but put it back..jail time?

Stole a tv from work..I was going to borrow it for the Super Bowl and put it back afterwards. Well the camera caught me partially..not with the tv but hanging around work after my shift was up. They noticed the tv was missing from a room and called the cops who got finger prints and all from the scene. Decided it was a dumb idea and I put the tv back before the cops could find it in my possesion. They never actually knew the tv left the building I put it back in a different room. The detective is still all over me. I know it was dumb and stupid and WONT be doing it again. So my question is what can I be charged with ? They noticed the tv was missing from the room is was in..but I put it back in a different room(tv was too big to put back without being seen). but they still recovered it, no damages. As far as they know it never left the building. I am no longer working there..(they let me go because of another reason..lateness)..it never left the building..What charges can filed?

Stole a tv but put it back..jail time?
Bad news, burglary and grand theft...both felonies. From the information you provided, your former employer is pretty ticked off, and the likelihood of the employer filing charges is strong. I can't condone your actions, but my professional advice: next time the detective contacts you, tell him/her, "I won't answer any questions without first speaking to my lawyer.". You're on camera and will be arrested. So contact a criminal defense attorney ASAP.
Reply:In Canada once the police are involved they have to lay charges.. one time i did something stupid and stole some tires... i returned them to the store and the owner said he wasn't going to press charges but the police still did.....stick with your story... or else fess up and get it over with.. its not that big of a deal...or talk to a legal aid about it and they can give u some legal advice.. good luck
Reply:Does't sound like they have enough evidence to pursue it any further.

Just dont admit to anything - and if they keep asking you questions - tell them that you want to have a lawyer present.

Without evidence, or the ability to hound you into a confession - you probably won't get any charges files.

Have you had tv licencing letters and people knocking at your door even though you dont have a tv?

Since ive moved to my current home, i dont have a tv. BUt i keep getting letters through the post once a month and then

TV people visiting my place and leaving 'calling cards'

They dont know who lives here, nor do i think its any of thier buisness. Why should i declare my name just so that can send me personalised threats, of fines, etc??

I just wandered if anyone else has had the same problems.?

Ive been told that they can obtain a search warant and can access my home wether im in or not and look for anytihng capable of recieving BBC channels.

So thats TV sets, setup boxes, satlite boxes, cable boxes, freeview boxes, computers, mobile phones...

Does this mean they can fine me for simply owning a computer that 'Could' recieve tv chanels.? - my computer has no tv card, but i was wandering if they would fine me because i could buy a tv carb or usb plugin and watch tv illegally

Have you had tv licencing letters and people knocking at your door even though you dont have a tv?
This question was intriguing to me because in the States we have no licensing fee so I was confused for a bit. I did some research and found this article in the Times Online.

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/bu...

Apparently they CANNOT charge a fee even if you do use the computer to view if it is streamed through the Internet. Adding a TV tuner card does in effect turn the computer into a Television so be careful on that front. The article did mention a need to start charging a fee for Internet but that it wouldn't be in effect for some time.

They cannot fine you for something you might do or can do but only what you do indeed DO. That means they need proof that you did something wrong. So do not stress yourself over it and if they keep coming to your door put up a sign that says No Television on the premises. Go away!

Try this http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll220...
Reply:Every address that does not have a current licence, is listed on their computer files, so that is why they will always return.
Reply:I used to get letter regarding me apparently not possessing a TV licence, despite the fact that I have one. This carried for a few months until I had finally had enough and sent a letter back explaining the situation. Then it stopped.

What I would suggest you do is to get in touch with the TV licencing people, either by letter or telephone, declaring that you do not own a TV set or other devices that could otherwise receive TV.

Mind you, they might penalise you for have an Internet connection (which I am guessing you do unless you are on a friend's or a work computer).
Reply:The law states that you must have a TV licence if you possess anything in your home that is capable of picking up a TV signal. In order to do this, you must have a TV analogue or digital tuner. If you don't have a freeview box, digital DVD recorder, TV, sky box, or computer with TV tuner in, then you have committed no offence. However, people with no TV equipment are so few and far between that it might be a good idea to write to the licencing authority and inform them of this. If you do so and they continue to send people round, this is harassment and you can take them to court for it. Hope this helps!
Reply:just pay for a licence and save the stress. East enders is so good as he shaged her and he was not dead but she looses the kid she was carryin and he hits her and loses job but she .............................
Reply:don't think so not if it's not capable of recieving tv
Reply:They talk tough to make people get a licence but I know people who never have bought one and most probably never will unless they're caught. For me personally I pay for it, but to be really honest I'm not that big a fan of TV.
Reply:My friend doesn't have a TV and they bother him every year, it drives him up the wall, they just cant believe that some people don't.

If your computer doesnt have a TV card your fine
Reply:No they can't fine you unless they prove you have a TV.

You don't have to let them in, engage with them, or even talk to them.

Tell them you have no TV, and to get lost!

Sony Bravia TV + Direct TV new channel display?

OK... if you have Direct TV, you know they just came out with a new display for all their channels. I have a sony bravia tv that I have hooked up to the Direct TV box. I was out of town the weekend that Direct TV updated the display. I came home, and now none of the channels fit on the TV. I'm missing the bottom 2 or 3 inches on each channel. I can tell this by watching ESPN, because I can't see any of the scores. I've gone through everything in trying to change the format with the wide view, normal, full view... everything... I can't seem to figure out why the channels are now not fitting the the TV screen. Can anyone figure this out?

Sony Bravia TV + Direct TV new channel display?
You have 2 sets of screen size control - the format button on the direct remote and the picture size button on the sony tv control - maybe you have the tv set to crop. Have you tried resetting or unplugging the receiver? I've had to do that to fix some problems too but I've never had this one. I have a Sony Bravia w/Direct tv HD too.

No HD TV NO TV?

Are we heading toward a society that MUST use HD television or else no tv?

I compare this situation to the 666 system that will be imposed on society after the rapture. In the book of Revelation, we read that only those people who bear the mark of the beast EITHER on their right hand or forehead will have the right to live in society, to buy food, clothes, gasoline, etc.

I see this HD tv as a threat from the government.

The famous "IF YOU DON'T" statement indicates a threat because it is saying that if people want to watch tv, they MUST get the HD tv or else stay without television PERIOD.

In other words, if you want water, you MUST GO TO THE WELL.

What is your view of this NO HD TV, NO TV AT ALL?

No HD TV NO TV?
The issue has nothing at all to do with HD TV. Current Broadcast television uses an analog signal. Analog signals require much more bandwidth (space) in the available spectrum of waves than do digital broadcast signals.

In a effort to provide the required number of broadcast possibilities the FCC has chosen to require many types of radio frequency broadcasts to move to the digital spectrum. Radio communications, cell phones, data transmissions have all already converted to digital. on Feb 1 2009 all television broadcasts will be required to move to digital transmissions, not HD transmissions.

Regular definition television sets will still work, if they have digital receivers, or are retrofitted with a digital receiver conversion box.
Reply:First of all HDTV and Digital Tv are two totally different things.
Reply:You can buy a converter what that will cost I am not sure. I don't really see this as much different to if you don't buy a color tv you can't watch tv in color or if you don't buy cable you only get 4 channels. Granted I don't like the fact that you won't have tv at all but to me this is just part of progression.
Reply:Just a bit over the top, don't you think? Revelations? The Beast is after your tv? If your likening tv to water, you should get an hdtv. It'd be like water on steroids! The Beasts new moniker is HDTV!!!

Ok, had to get that out. In actuality the Beast is allowing you to use your old analog tv with a converter box. He's even giving you a coupon for $40 off (they're currently $53 at Walmart). If you have cable or satellite, you don't need a convereter box and your tv will continue to work as always.
Reply:I agree completely with the others. Your view on the situation is full of mis-information and paranoia. Digital, not HD, and the government isn't MAKING you do anything. Since when is television a necessity of life? Damn Bible beaters going all willy nilly because they're scared they'll miss Oprah.
Reply:And another Govt rant based on ignorance and misinformation. As other have stated we're going Digital in 2009 and NOT HD and the dif between the two is huge.

If you have cable and or satellite you would never even know there was a switch unless someone told you. Since Analog takes up at least 4 times more bandwidth then Digital we are changing over to free up frequencies.

These frequencies will be used for public safety like Police, Fire and especially for disaster management communications. After spending 2 weeks cleaning up after Katrina the latter is sorely needed.

Step up the the 21st century, will ya?

USB TV Tuner?

I have a usb tv tuner and i can watch tv just fine using the media tv software. But when i try to use media center it tells me there is no tv tuner hardware (tv card)detected.

Is there a way (is it even possible) to have media center register a usb tv tuner as a tuner card?

I was thinking maybe pluggins or somthing like that.

USB TV Tuner?
The driver for your USB TV tuner needs to be BDA compatible to work with media center.

Check the manufacturers website of the maker of your tuner adapter to see if they have a BDA driver for it.

Without this it won't work with media center.

Email me with the make and model and i'll see if I can find a BDA compatible one for it.

Calibration lcd tv?

im thinking of buying a tv to get more bang for my buck. so ive looked at everything from a vizio to a aquis even dlp's. my problem that i have cam accross is after spending all the money and what i need to do all i found out that i should or wisely is advised to calibrate my tv after about 150 hrs or so. my question is. does every tv need calibrated and who or what is the best way to calibrate it. also who is certified to calibrate these tv's and who should i trust. im totally lost on calibrations. i do though understand the concept of calibrating a tv with the color contrast and picture quality but is it worth it with tv's on the market and is there truth in these calibrations or is it a way to get more money out of the tv's. thanks...

Calibration lcd tv?
Like most people you do NOT need a professional “calibration,” especially at intervals of 150 hours of display use. If you purchase a well-designed, well-built digital television it is extremely unlikely that you would benefit from a professional calibration. Most new digital displays are equipped with at least one preferable display mode setting that will provide sufficiently accurate color fidelity after a little tweaking. Professional display calibrations are best left to professional applications as well as high-budget, large-screen home theater installations.

Simply obtain one of the display optimization (aka “calibration”) DVDs, such as “Avia” or “Digital Video Essentials,” to help you properly adjust the settings on your display for your particular viewing environment. If you choose to purchase the Avia or DVE discs you would then have the freedom to regularly optimize your TV settings as often as you like. (You should recheck your display settings no less than once per year.) As an alternative, if you do not already own one, you can obtain a THX Certified DVD movie, such as The Incredibles, which includes the supplemental THX Optimizer utility to help you optimize your display settings.

If you are fairly serious about color fidelity you have another, more cost-effective alternative to costly professional display calibrations. You can purchase a good quality, inexpensive colorimeter, such as one of the models from GretagMacbeth, Datacolor, etc., and regularly calibrate your own display at a great cost savings.

My 420p LCD tv wont play my 360's HD cables any more?

For the past five months i have been playing my xbox 360 off of a 420p LCD TV. I have had my HD cables plugged in to the TV and have been getting a sharper image. Yesterday i unplugged the cables(and my 360) and took them to a friends house and used them on his 720p HD TV. When i got home i plugged in my 360 and plugged my video cables back into my TV (HD included) and they are all in the right colour. (my 360 cables are set to HD TV not just TV, but when i boot up my 360 and turn on my TV (set to "video 2" because it has no component setting on it and i have played for the last 5 months on "video 2") i get a black screen saying "Not Available"

However, when i set my 360 to "TV" i get a picture but it is blurry like slandered def is. I switched it back and forth a few times but it only works on standard def now. (however, when i take out the "GREEN" HD plug i get sound 'which i did not get befor' but still no picture

My 420p LCD tv wont play my 360's HD cables any more?
Time to get an HDTV
Reply:Turn on your 360 when it's on the TV mode, the blurrier mode, and go to the far right tab of your dashboard.

Go to system.

Go to video

Go to your definition settings and set it back to 420p, then turn off your 360 and put it back into HDTV position.

Is my old TV compatible with new DVD/VCR combos?

I just purchased an RCA DVD recorder/VCR combo (model #DRC8335). After installing it, I found that I wasn't able to get to the setup menu. My previous DVD or VCR remotes all had a "VCR/TV" button that you pressed to put the TV into video mode, but I couldn't find one on this remote. I called their customer support number and was surprised to hear that there wasn’t any such functionality provided – you are expected to select the input mode on the TV. However, I have an 18-year old TV that doesn’t have any such selection that I have ever seen. All that the customer support person had to suggest was to contact the TV manufacturer – which will be quite a problem because my TV is a Signature 2000 -- the Montgomery Ward brand! (Maybe some other company actually manufactured the TV but I have no idea how to find out which one.)

1. Is there anything I can do other than to buy a new TV (won’t happen) or return the DVD machine?

2. Are all newDVD/VCR players like this?

Is my old TV compatible with new DVD/VCR combos?
Does your TV work by remote? If yes, you can buy a generic universal remote about anywhere that should be capable of working both devices. If no, you are already manually changing channels which means in this instance, by the power of your hand instead of remote control. What input on the TV are you bringing the DVD box into? If it's coax, put the TV on channel 3 or 4. If it is an RCA jack, put the TV on Line IN or Aux or something like that. Good luck.
Reply:try doing it manually! mine works that way...its 25 years old! zenith!

Computer to Tv Question! Easy 10 pts for good answer!?

Ok, here is the deal. I want to transfer video from my computer, to my TV. I have a older TV that does not have S-jacks. Just the normal red/white/yellow jacks. My computer does not have a TV Tuner either but that is not what I am looking for. For instance, I go to NBC/ABC websites to watch TV shows, and I want to covert it to my TV. I also went to Radio Shack a few months ago and they had exactly what I wanted but it was $80. I don't know what the unit is called. Of course, the girl at Radio Shack said that it will work, but she didn't seem confident. Is there something out there that will transfer the image or such (TV show) to my TV just using the colored (Yellow/Red/White) jacks? Any website would be great too! Thanks!

You will need a USB A/V converter. It is the only way!!!!

DLP Hd Tv??

I just purchased a 42" Toshiba LCD HD TV...we play games (xbox 360, Wii, etc) and we watch alot of movies and direct tv. We are thinking we need something a little bigger, plus we might be purchasing a home theatre system. We called the store where we purchased the tv and its to late to return it. We then saw the Samsung 61" DLP HD TV model number HL-T6176S for $1499. we paid $1399 for our LCD tv. should we just try and sell the tv and just get the DLP Tv? what would you do? whats the pros and cons of the two and what is the difference? Any help would be great! THANKS!

DLP Hd Tv??
I got the Sony KDS-60A3000 for $1,700. Its a 60" 1080p projection hdtv. (Its not DLP its actually SXRD). I couldnt be happier. One word of warning, the main (really the only) problem with a projection HDTV: You cannot mount it on the wall--you need to put it on a stand or table. The reason I went with the Sony instead of the slightly cheaper Samsung %26amp; Mitsubishi models is the cnet review below.
Reply:I'd keep the TV set....Why take a loss on your brand new TV?

You can ALWAYS use it as your 2nd TV in the house, when you Get the one you want in a couple years...

Then the technology will be better and less costly......

And everybody always needs a backup TV....

CLOUT is 100% Misinformed....The DLP is the sturdiest technology out there amongst the others that Burn....

And SONY never made the DLP TV set....NEVER.
Reply:you don't want the DLP tv, it's an inferior technology and being discontinued by most of the major manufacturers. Sony just announced they won't make these kinds of sets any more. DLP means Digital Light Projection and it's a projector type tv. Technically this thing will take up alot more space because it is more than 12" deep, gets dirty inside, uses lenses and mirrors which can get out of alignment, has a screen that can get damaged or contaminated easily, has poor brightness and contrast compared to the lcd. etc etc etc.

There's a reason why it's less expensive than the LCD.

Good luck!

My tv is not reponding to control or control not respondingto tv?

we have had our tv and dvd player for 2 years. our tv is Toshiba and our dvd player is Sony. both are connected to each other, when we misplace our control for the tv we use the dvd player's control. they have been working perfectly p until now. when we wanted to watch a movie on dvd we used the dvd player's control to turn the tv's mode to cable(comcast) to video. now the tv doesnt respond! any suggestions to make it work?????

My tv is not reponding to control or control not respondingto tv?
Many possible reasons

1. Put fresh batteries

2. Something is blocking the IR sensor on the TV

3. Someone by accident changed the "TV code" used in the Sony remote - so you will need to reprogram it.

What TV components does my TV have to have to bee hooked up to Xbox 360?

I'm thinking about getting an Xbox 360 but I need to buy a TV so it can be in my room. I have a PC. Can I hook it up to my PC?

If I get an actual TV, what components does it need. Does it actually have to get channels or can it just be a TV that functions properly.

Does the TV have to have the Red, White, and Yellow plugs?

And also, where can I find a TV under 100, but preferably the cheapest possible that an Xbox can be hooked up to.

Thx

What TV components does my TV have to have to bee hooked up to Xbox 360?
There is a way to hook it up to your PC monitor. Gamestop, aka EB games, funcoland, or babbages, sells an adapter for the back of your xbox 360 that will let you use your PC monitor. Your tv must work properly but doesnt need to get any channels, BUT it must have at least the red white and yellow unless you want to pay for a rfu switch. all I can say for the price is check around your town
Reply:i think there's a way to hook it up to your PC but I'm not sure.

For TV, it might ask you for channels or there might be the case it doesn't need channels.

Yes the red, white, and yellow plugs are already on unless ou have a old one.

There's probably TV's a Wal-Mart like a small toshiba or samsung.

Live streaming TV on laptop over wireless internet?

I don't have a TV.

I have a laptop with a wireless internet broadband card (WWAN) and normally, i go to the websites of NBC, Fox, etc. to watch full episodes of certain TV shows. On my cellphone, there is a service by mobiTV that lets me watch live streaming TV channels on my cellphone. Is there a similar service that will let me watch live streaming TV channels so i can watch shows from NBC, Fox, CBS, etc. as if i was tuning in with a regular TV ??

I am not asking about a TV tuner card or slingbox. For both of those, you need to have a cable/satellite TV service at home. I don't have those. I take my laptop with me to work/home and i want to be able to watch live TV channels and shows on my laptop with my wireless internet card (WWAN)

Perhaps you can use your mobile phone to get mobiTV channels, but then connect it to your laptop via bluetooth or USB and play the content on your laptop.

Satellite tv? what kind of cable connects satellite reciever to the tv and etc?

Hello,

I'm thinking of getting direct tv. They charge monthly for extra recievers for each additional tv you want to have the satellite hooked up to. What I was wondering is what type of cord hooks up btwn the reciever (box) to the tv? Is it just a cable wire (one prong you screw into the back), or some other type of cable. My next question is can I run a splitter to run to another tv? I know I wouldn't be able to be able to watch two different channels but is it possible. And finally I have cable lines ran throughout my house already from the previous owner. Do they use those lines or do they have to run new?

Please help. I don't want to have to put a reciever (box) in every room due to I won't use the other tv's as much. Just some.

And I got another one while I'm here I just bought a HP computer with the tv tuner in it. How do I hook up the satellite to that and use it?

I'm sorry if there is confusion. Let me know if you have more questions to clarify. Thank you for your time.

Pc to tv using home wifi?

I have a Sony HD TV. My computer is about 50 feet away in my office. The PC is connected to a Link Sys router which runs fine. I have another PC connected to it using the wireless connection. I am on Direct TV Satelite. Works great. Playing DVD's on the TV no problem.

Question: What do I need to do to get the TV to receive a wireless signel from the Office PC and play? Is there such a thing as a wireless (stand alone) receiver that I can put by the TV and plug it into the TV to receive the signals?. The TV has inputs for HDMI, PV, S-video and I guess a few others. Multitude of inputs. An option is to put a third computer besides the TV and use it for the intermediate step, but really do not want to do that. Stinging a physical connection is sort of out of the question because of distance and front yard. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Pc to tv using home wifi?
well if you have media center version in your pc you can use one of the many wireless media center extender in the market like

http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite...

they even came with dvd player integrated and have component, hdmi output and digital audio output too.

remember that for streaming hd content you will need a lot of bandwidth like in wireless-N maybe Wireless-G could work depend on the streaming content.

TV & PC can't play television @ the same time?

If my tv and my pc (with tv-tuner card) are viewing television, then there's alot of noise in the tv-view on my PC. The television still behaves normal.

When i disconnect the cable of my TV, the noise disappears and i can happily watch TV on my pc. The only problem is that i want the TV and the PC playing television at the same time though, that's not possible now. How do i fix this?

TV %26amp; PC can't play television @ the same time?
You probably have a bad/cheap switch or one of the cables is bad and shorts or creates interference.

Check/change your cables or change your switch.

TV Licencing Harassment Tactics and Letters, Should the TV Licencing HQ (BBC) Be Burned To The Ground?

People who watch TV should buy a TV licence because the fee funds the BBC (which i think if the damned BBC wants to blast there precious signal through my home home which is private property, should scramble it.. if they send there signal onto my property then that signal becomes mine whilst it is there)... However in a realistic light some people choose not to recive TV signals for good reason and disconnect the detuned TV from an Anttena which is then soley used for DVD, VCR, Games Consoles, Home Video Cameras, Etc, Etc.. ( the BBC cannot belive that anyone would not want to watch TV so persist in a most evil and harrasing computeried campaign against individuals who do not want there service....

I serverd with the British armed forced during the first gulf war.. our vehicle a challenger main battle tank without a doubt took the lives of many enemy soldiers.. we were told that this was in the name of freedom .. I come home and find that i cannot even defend my own home...

TV Licencing Harassment Tactics and Letters, Should the TV Licencing HQ (BBC) Be Burned To The Ground?
Well said 'spooky' and I agree. As far as I am concerned they can be burned to the ground and never remembered again! Their programs are repeated trash anyway...

It seems the BBC can do what they like and we don't have a say, talk about 'big brother' watching you! I would vote for a 'ban the BBC anyday'!

Wish you had a battle tank now! I would gladly help the 'attack'... ;-)
Reply:My TV is detuned and I have no connection to an aerial. I don't watch TV as it's broadcast and as such, don't need a licence. However, I get at least one threatening letter a month telling me I don't have a licence, they can authorise anyone to visit but he'll need a search warrant to enter my house, that'll cost them money and no return for their investment.
Reply:When the BBC can spend £310,000 a year on biscuits then something is wrong....they should be held more accountable to the licence payers...

I resent having to pay the fee.....especially for a lot of the crap they laughingly refer to as entertainment.

Nine programmes out of ten are repeats....advertised as 'yet another chance to see this much loved...' or 'a compilation of your favourite clips'...usually introduced by some overpaid half assed has-been whose private life has all the stability of a wallpaper paste table...

We gotta sit through 10 minutes of a weather report telling us about Hurricane frigging Herbert, which happens to be three thousand miles from the UK and going away from us at the speed of sound, a twenty five year accumulation of half inch of rainfall in a Kurdistan parking lot, then a satellite pic of the UK through a UV filter, a satellite pic of the UK through a IR filter then an ordinary satellite pic of the weather-mans bungalow in Kent, just to find out the weather is gonna be crap tomorrow ...and even then they never get it right! Where's our sodding storms?

I was rather hoping that when Billy Cotton, George Chisum, Arthur Askey %26amp; Co. retired the Beeb would replace them with talent...but we still have the cliquey little groups that appear in completely unfunny sit-coms and turn up at every self back patting showbiz party the Beeb likes to throw with our money, record and then peddle it back to us as entertainment...
Reply:I think they should add the cost of the licence on at the Till. IF we have to have it. I don't think we should have to have one, considering the tax we pay in this country.

The seller should be liable for providing a licence for the TV's it sells, as a responsible retailer.

Then none of us would have to put up with this terrorism and bullying from the TV licencing gang.
Reply:I can't belive that the powers that be, are still allowing these rip off merchants to terrorise us at will. I rarely watch the BBC, certainly not enough to warrant the huge fee that they expect to get from us. As my father is now 75 years old, we are off the hook, but we did pay it faithfully, and grudgingly for many years. In this day of satelite and cable, it's totally outrageous to expect folk to pay for something that they rarely watch.... Grrrrrr..
Reply:I agree with you I don't like paying it but I have to, I got caught and when they came to the door and asked me if I was watching TV I said yes, I didn't have much money at the time so they asked why I didn't have one as if wanting me to come out with some bull story, I just said no money sorry you can't take trousers off a bare **** (bum), 3 days later I got a summons and ended up with a £50 fine. I hate paying it.

Actually if you think about it they do advertise, there own programmes!!
Reply:TV License is just one big con. I have a license now, but for years I never bothered with it.
Reply:Try living in a country without a national subscription channel. You'd soon be screaming for the BBC.
Reply:I climbed out of the window once to avoid the tv license man! Got one the next day, I had to borrow the money, but now I pay with card at paypoint, its robbery, especially when we hear what they spend it on.
Reply:You've got a point, a good one. Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it at the moment. BUT that is about to change; as you no doubt know, TV is going entirely digital and as the law stands you have to pay a TV license if you have equipment capable of receiving broadcast signals. Of course that means if you want a TV for DVDs, games etc but not for TV programmes you have to remove the aerial from your house and render all TVs incapable of receiving the signals. However, once it all goes digital that means standard non-digital TVs won't be able to receive the signals without a digi-box, and that means if they're the only type of TV you own, you won't have to pay the licence fee. And I have that in writing from the TV licence company (took me a while to get a straight answer; they obviously didn't want to admit it, but had no choice). Bring on the digital age and freedom from having to pay £120 a year just because I have the ABILITY to watch a load of crap.
Reply:I agree with you! Programming from the BBc sucks, to receive any decent programmes I subscribe to Sky, I also paid extra for a TV with Freeview built in so why should I pay again simply to line the pockets of some fat wallet in a suit! Especially when they put the fees up to cover the cost of the fines they received for ripping off their viewers?! I say if we all boycott our license fees they may get the message!

I became a master of avoiding the front door, but obviously my luck ran out and got caught.

I have a current licence now, which is a waste of money and total con for the service we get. It's not good enough just to *not* have adverts - they need to make their service worth the money.
Reply:I totally agree with you on that one. My hubby's friends have got Turkish satellite TV. half of them don't even speak English properly. they have to buy a TV licence just so they can ignore the BBC. they haven't even got any English channels tuned in to their telly.

I begrudge paying for it too because it is mostly repeats anyway!!!

Tv tuner card specifications?

hi guys!

i need a little guidance here.

i have an hcl branded desktop computer 2.66 ghz intel processor with gigabyte(8I865GVMK-775)

motherboard with onboard intel graphics engine and on board sound.

i want to put a tv tuner card in my system, to see all the channels that comes in to my tv, in my

pc. i have a cable tv connection in my house.

But the problem is that i dont know a bit about these tv tuner cards and their technology. so need

a little guidance here because i want to sure that i should be able to see all cable tv channels

in my pc.

1) So i want to know what kind of things i need to check in a tv tuner card so that i can and must

see all my cable tv channels like what technical specifications or kind of signalling i need to

check that it supports,i dont know that cable tv signal is an analogue or digital?

2)Do i need to ask anything from my cable tv provider like any tech details etc. or i can simply

go to the market buy any latest card ,insert it in system, hook my cable tv wire and it will work?

Tv tuner card specifications?
If you're in the USA, any of the TV tuner cards sold here should work with your cable box. You just connect the round coaxial cable to your TV tuner card.

The signal is NTSC standard, so it's no different than picking a TV set that works. If you're in Europe or somewhere that uses the PAL standard, you need a card of that type. Some cards have capture %26amp; record capabilities so your computer can act as a DVR, others just let you watch TV.

While the external USB 2.0 versions of TV tuner cards do work fine, I'd recommend the internal PCI variety. Some computers only have old USB 1.1 ports, and the external cards really need USB 2.0.

There are however, both HD and regular versions of TV tuner cards. So far the HD cards haven't really impressed anyone- my guess is the amount of data in the HD broadcast is just too large for them to offer fancy features yet,.

Here's a CNET roundup that's a little dated, but still useful.
Reply:You can take a odyssey external TV tuner card which is costing 750 rs and you can watch all the TV channels without starting your CPU . No need of starting your computer. However, if you need capturing the TV channels you can opt for a internal TV tuner card (pinnacle brand) around 1500 rs and enjoy .

Cable/satellite tv in a couple years?

My folks just got direct tv and canceled cable tv other than my room looking like they feds were in here looking for drugs and the tv in my room not working worth a damn and a bunch of other cables going to my computer being disconnected and just left like that for me to put back after a long F*****g day at work what else do I have to worry about I remember I kept seeing a commercial with an older lady talking about something related to cable tv and satellite tv she said something about satellite tv owners will have to get something extra to be able to continue to watch their satellite tvs while cable tv owners have nothing to worry about and will be able to continue to watch their tvs does anyone know exactly what shes talking about?

dont ever get direct tv they come in your house do what they want unplug whatever they feel like now my computer works like a** and my tv dosent even work.

Cable/satellite tv in a couple years?
Satellite and cable fed TVs should be OK for now.

On February 17, 2009, all US TV broadcasters are required to turn off their older analog transmitters and be exclusively digital. This will affect Over The Air (OTA) viewers only.

OTA viewers will need to either upgrade to a digital TV or purchase a digital converter box. Converter boxes are targeted to be on retailers' shelves by the end of March 2008 and are expected to be in the $40 - $70 range. The government is offering coupons to consumers to help with the cost of the converter boxes. You may apply for a coupon here: https://www.dtv2009.gov/ .

People who subscribe to cable or satellite will not be affected immediately as the cable box or satellite receiver will convert the signals to analog as they do now.

There are some advantages to using the OTA digital broadcasts. First, it's free. All you must do is put up an antenna. Second, there are features in the OTA digital signal, like surround sound, other languages, and sub channels that may not be passed along by cable systems and satellite providers until they upgrade their systems.

If you wish to have a TV industry professional speak to your community group free of charge about the transition, contact the National Association of Broadcasters Speaker's Bureau at (202) 232-6579 . You can also find information at http://www.DTVAnswers.com .
Reply:Actually.. I'm not so sure you'll be effected. What your talking about is them transition from analog to digital tv. Understand that this primarily effects TV using over the air antennas... (a.k.a. bunny ears). As far as it effecting satellite and cable subscribers, the details and the exceptions can be complicated. First off, while the antenna TV thing is mandated by the federal goverment to go down by February of next year, the cable/satellite companies don't need to make a full switch to digital by then. Also, if your satellite service is digital.. (some examples of which include getting a wopping amount of channels, you have on-demand, you can watch HD channels).. then you don't have to worry at all. If your sattelite service is analog (if they even do that on new setups anymore)then essentially you'd need a replacement box for each TV using satellite. If your boxes are leased this shouldn't be much of a problem, they'll probably replace them for free or for only a small fee. This is what I assume anyway... I'm way more familiar with cable TV.

But to get a TV to work using bunny ear antennas, you'll need to put a small converter box connected between the antenna and tv, unless you have a newer DTV ready tv. In certain cases and inevidably some people may need something like that for the basic cable/satelite service as well.. but more likely they'd just get a new cable/satellite box... the same as if they upgraded now to digital service. I do know by me for instance, HBO go dropped from our regular analog cable service.. so the TVs in my house that have the cable wire plugged straight into the TV don't have HBO.... but my living room has a digital cable box, so that's not effected, iow it still has HBO.
Reply:The government wants everything to switch over to digital so they can have full access to the analog signal for security purposes. This will not effect satellite TV at all because all the providers I know of broadcast 100% digitally plus HD. If your parents use bunny ears to get their local channels then they will be effected. If their locals come over the satellite dish, then there is no problem.
Reply:in 2009 t.v. stations are going to stop broadcastin in vhf and uhf bands so anyone with aerial antennas will stop getting any signal at all. that will disrupt reception on satellite dishes as well so you will have to get another device to make sattelite dishes work properly while landline cable t.v. will not be affected. sorry

TV, digital box and dvd recorder question?

I want a tv with digital TV, a recorder to record programs from tv which also lets me pause and rewind live tv and record series etc, and also have a dvd player. Which combination of electricals is best? I was thinking a TV with built in freeview and then a dvd recorder with hard drive to record programmes from tv but I don't know if one will let me pause and rewind TV. Can someone please help me sort out this mess and reccomend me some stuff?

Get a twin tuner Freeview recorder, then you won't need a TV with built in Freeview, and you can get a basic DVD recorder if you still need one... Hold on, I'll find a link...

As I understand that DVD Player, Home Theatre System and Dish will have a audio and video cable which will connect to the LCD TV.

So just wanted to know that how these cables from different systems (DVD Player, Home Theatre System and Dish TV) will connect to the LCD TV?

Do the LCD TV has a provision (separate hook) so that all the audio and video cables from different systems (DVD Player, Home Theatre System and Dish TV) can connect to the TV altogether (I mean multiple audio and video terminals in TV).

If LCD TV has only one audio and video terminal then how can I connect the audio and video cable from these different systems. Since my LCD TV will be wall mounted, I believe that it will be difficult for me to change the cable from

Wiring solutions for LCD TV?
Your new TV will probably have more than enough connections for everything and then some. That is the easy part.

If you are planning on mounting it on the wall with no cables showing, you definitely should have a professional installer do the job. A good installer will also know exactly which cables go where on the TV.
Reply:There will be different ports for everything you need to hook up, hdmi cables and regular rca jacks for audio. Everything you buy will come with instructions on how they go together, they kinda very by company so there is no exact way. Just read the instructions and follow the pictures and is nearlyl impossible to mess up.

TV broke, tube tv's aren't even MADE anymore--what should I do?

10 year old Sony 27" TV just broke, was told it is the CRT/tube and would be too expensive to be worth fixing.

So basically my 2 options are to buy a new Sony LCD TV (my parents REFUSE to buy anything that's not Sony) or a used Sony tube TV.

Tube TV would be fine, but how do we know it won't just break next year, or if the people are being honest (it would be through craigslist)?

And, why should we spend $1200+ for an LCD tv whose picture quality won't be as good as our old tube TV (according to multiple salesmen @ different electronics stores)? They said this is partly because we have analog cable not digital cable. But our ONLY cable option (besides crappy satellite) is Comcast (which is already almost $60 a month for analog) and we don't want to pay extra for digital cable/cable box/HD. Will the picture really be as bad as they say it will be?

Help! What do you think we should do?!

THANKS!

TV broke, tube tv's aren't even MADE anymore--what should I do?
A used 27" Sony in very good condition should run around $70. (If you can find one.)

When buying a used TV, all you can do is watch it run for a while and take what the seller says for what it's worth.

But if it breaks in a year, well so what? A $1200 TV can break the day after the warranty expires. In a year the price of the LCD TV will probably drop more than $70. Used Sony CRT TVs tend to be pretty reliable, if it's running perfectly now, it's pretty likely that it has more than a year's life left in it.
Reply:Tube type (CRT) sets are still sold in America you just have to shop where they are sold (Walmart, Sears and so on).

Getting a SONY CRT might be difficult unless a store has one they have not sold or a return that was repaired.
Reply:First, you can still buy new CRT sets.

Second, are you absolutely sure you can't use an antenna in your location?

Third-the salesmen are correct. Analog SD TV won't look as good on an HDTV as it does on a CRT TV. This is due to the need to process the low definition signal to fill the high definition screen.

Fourth-consider an EDTV-it has a good picture-can be expected to do better with SD because it doesn't have to process as much. See the EDTVs mixed in with the HDTVs in the link below.

Despite all of the above, you have to realize you're swimming against the tide and it won't be long before your cable company will go all digital-probably after 2012.

I can't make a recommendation, because I don't know your financial status. If TV is your family's main source of entertainment, then you have to seriously consider an HDTV and upgraded cable service.

Tv on standby mode?

i have a lcd 32" tv.today i conneected my tv with my laptop via VGA cable to watcth a movie. after watching movie, i pressed the power button on the tv remot to turn the tv off.now i can't turn on my tv.the red light is on on the tv and it looks like that it on standby mode.can somebody tell me what is problem and how can i turn on my tv. my laptop is working properly.

Tv on standby mode?
if your laptop is like mine, you have to manually toggle the external VGA connector on/off, it is the F7 key on mine. The default position is off so it will need to be reset every time the computer is booted.
Reply:reboot your TV, unplug from the power source, then plug it in again

RCA TV model 27v514t Diode shorted?

need help! TV purchased May 2006 (manufactured April 06) No problems till last week, TV was on. Sound/picture disappeared. Red power light remained illuminated. Tried to turn off tv, panel button AND remote button failed to turn it off. I unplugged the TV, plugged it back in and pressed the power button. RED power light flashes 25 times, goes steady, no pic/no sound. Same result with front panel and remote buttons.

I had the TV Serviced and the Diode had to be replaced. After picking the TV up and bringing it home, I plugged in the TV and it worked. I went to program my channels and poof the TV quit working again.

Does anyone have any idea on what would make the Diode short out again?

RCA TV model 27v514t Diode shorted?
Depends which diode you are talking about !! I have never actually counted but there will be well over a dozen of various size and type !

Diodes usually fail because a fault has applied too much voltage , there is one diode called a zener diode that is designed to fail or go shorted , it is connected to the B+ rail and if the B+ rail rises above the designed voltage then the zener diode goes short and cuts off the power supply for the set.

There are the bridge rectifier diodes which are four in a pack which fail and blow the fuse when the voltage regulator in the power supply fails,

From this you can see that there is no easy answer with out the set in front of me and a bit of serious fault finding .

Your best course is to go back to shop and tell them, they most likely have a repair warranty.

My tv is being stupid...?

So, I was watching some tv.

And then I was like, wow, I wanna play some Wii now. [brawl, woo!]

But the TV remote wont let me change the channel to switich.

TV is on 3, Wii's on 4. TV's working fine, but the TV remote won't let me go to channel four and the manual controls on the TV have never worked.

I've tried changing to batteries in the remote, unplugging the TV, resetting the channels... pretty much everything. The remote will turn the TV on and off but thats it.

What can I do?

My tv is being stupid...?
Most TVs have a learn or scan mode, where it scans each channel for a signal. That way you don't end up having to go through one channel at a time when there's nothing there.

Try turning on the Wii, then have the TV perform the channel scan again (this is usually in the menu under setup). It should detect channel 4 and add it to the list of channels you receive. This should allow you to use the remote to go to channel 4. (note that when you Wii is off, channel 4 will just display static.)
Reply:if the remote will still turn on and off the TV try to hit the TV option button (TV,VCR, AUX,....) normaly across the top of the remote.
Reply:The remote's channel selector switch may be stucked after years of use and abuse. Check the remote first.
Reply:If you have an older remote, it is possible that it has just gone bad. I would try getting a new cheep remote.

Also, having the manual TV buttons comes in handy more that you think, and if you can afford it, I would suggest getting a new TV, but that's just my opinion.
Reply:Is it a Philips TV?
Reply:Does your remote operate MORE than just a TV set?? Does it also operate a DVD or Audio amp or Cable box??

Those remotes have a TV Mode switch on them and it MUST be in TV mode, not audio mode or dvd more or any other mode.....

That is a likely cause of failure....

If it doesn't have those modes, then your remote just decided to call it quits on you.....and you need a new one.

A work around is to disconnect, or turn off the TV signal, switch the Wii's RF channel to Channel 3 and use it .....

Then just power up/reconnect the TV cable and you're back to watching TV....

TV stopped working after we messed with the inputs???

My fiance was trying to plug his WII into our TV. Our TV is set up with cable running straight into the TV, and the DVD plugged into the tv through those 3 colored things (red, yellow, white). He messed with the connection, and now the TV is gray and white, and the channels are messed up with lines going across the screen. What did we do??? We restored the TV to it's default and reset it, and it still isn't working. Please help... it's my parents TV and my mom's fixing to blow a fuse!

TV stopped working after we messed with the inputs???
What channel does your cable come in on - usually 3 or 4. Make sure your TV is set to that channel. Make sure the INPUT on the TV is appropriate. Make sure the SINGLE cable

connection from the WALL goes to the "INPUT" on the cable box.

Make sure the single cable connector from the CABLE BOX to the TV originates at the OUT PUT

or TO TV connector and leads to the ANTENNA

INPUT connector at the TV. This connection is what may alter the TV input selection. DVD should have the three colored cables from 'OUT'

to the TV AUX-IN. This connection, too, is controlled with the INPUTselector on the TV.

Make sure all are turned on and make sure all the connections are tight.

You could call the cable company and I bet they would help. Good luck.
Reply:make sure everything is in the right spot. the cable goes into a metal spot that juts out and you have to screw it in, you should be able to tell where the colored ones go.

Next time he wants to plug in his wii he can just plug it into the vcr or dvd recorder, and it will work the same.
Reply:First....the CHANNELS

The lines are LIKELY caused by being on the wrong channel like 4 instead of 3......

IF you have a DISH NETWORK, the 2nd TV connected ACTUALLY uses the channels 60 to 75.....and that might be TV number two....LOOK at your DISH REMOTE and if the bottom of the remote you use has 2 on it.....then you have to go to ONE and bring up the number two TV's SETTINGS....

I'd contact DISH at this point......

But BACK to your other problem......

So....your DVD is Black and white too?? The ONLY logical reason it would be Black and White would be.....

Well there's NOTHING that would make the Video Black and White UNLESS......

BOTH the Wii and the DVD use the

%26lt;%26lt;5 wire COMPONENT CONNECTORS%26gt;%26gt;

And he mixed up the RED/White AUDIO connections with the RED/BLUE VIDEO CONNECTIONS......

When you're all scrunched back there behind the TV set it's easy to do THAT......

And since the ONLY connection is the GREEN one....You end up with a Black and White picture !!

The RED and BLUE create the Color with the 5 Wire component connections.....

AND....the Wii is component cabling......

So.....PULL out the TV if you can, to LOOK at the connections and actually make sure the cables are going to the proper colored input connectors on the Back of the TV set.....

Boy, makes you WISH you had connectors on the FRONT of the TV set for things like the Wii controllers doesn't it.....

Kolins TV troubleshooting..?

hi.. i would like to seek for help about my tv problem.. well, i used a universal remote on our kolins (its the brand name, i heard its under LG electronics) tv, then after i set it up (entering the code in to the remote so it can control the tv), our tv got jammed.. the picture isnt clear as it used to be %26amp; it got this unusual black border around the screen.. i tried fixing it through the tv set-up but i cant reverse what happened.. pls someone help me wih this.. thanks..

(PS: this problem has nothing to do with the satellite, antenna, cable or wirings.. i never had a problem like this until i used the universal control over the tv.. its more like that the remote accidentally damaged a chip or whatever controls the tv's picture output..

another note: the tv's picture tube is perfectly fine since our tv was just 2 years old.. i never had the picture/screen problems until i used the remote..)

Kolins TV troubleshooting..?
Hmm, Kolins TV doesn't even come up in American Google....I'm surprised it doesn't.

Is Kolins a UK brand and if so, is it a Well Known brand like Sony or LG or RCA or Toshiba?

Or is it more like ILO and Visio - cheap and new name TV sets?

I really recommend googling Kolins TV remotes and getting the original remote control to resolve your settings....

Picture isn't clear...I'll bet you are now looking at the OLD TV signal instead of the Digital TV signal....

Border around the picture...I'll bet it's the analog station instead of the Digital station...but it could be your aspect ratio setting is 4:3 instead of 16:9 wide screen.....
Reply:TV Guy is correct in this ! A Remote control can not damage a TV, now it may well mess things up temporarily but should be ok after reset , If you can get to the menu manually from controls on TV go to menu and select " Default Settings " and go from there !!

Cheers Pete
Reply:A remote command can't damage the TV.

Unplug the TV from the wall and plug it back and it should work OK.
