Bought tv from argos in dec2006 by march2007 had to have it replaced due to fault. tv now has the same proble

the tv was £700. I have contacted argos and they have given me the manufacturers details and told me to contact them. i know i am out of guarantee but it doesn't seem right to pay all that money for a tv that only lasts that long and for it to be same fault as first set. any ideas what i can/should do. my 5 year old not enjoying cbeebies on a portable!!

If it was replaced in March 2007, it will now be out of guarantee. If you contact the manufacturer, as it is so close to the guarantee they might help. But unlike what the other answerers are saying here, if ithas developed a fault outside of the guarantee, and you have no insurance policy on it, you don't have a leg to stand on. The Sale of Goods Act is very useful within the first year, after that, liability for faults diminishes greatly. I would contact the manufacturer (you don't say who this is) and you may find them very helpful. Otherwise, I would learn the lesson and don't buy a cheap TV from Argos again! You should look for value not just the cheapest thing you can get!
Reply:You don't say who the manufacturer is but anyway write to them and explain as you have above. Tell them the tv is not fit for its purpose under the Sale of Goods Act. They should at the very least repair it free of charge and that repair will carry a 1 year guarantee on the fault in case in goes again.


If they refuse to repair or replace then contact Trading Standards and they will contact the manufacturer on your behalf to resolve situtaion.
Reply:Phone your local trading standards office up and they will help you with writing a letter to Argos customer services or head office.





The sale of goods act states that appliances should be of durable quality.





They will be very helpfull with who to write to and what you need to put in letter.

Reply:If its only 3-4 months, definitely the manufacturer will be able to help. I suggest to contact the manufacturer.





I have an experience that my 2 year old Canon Camera was fully replaced with new one by the manufacturer.
Reply:someone gave me some good info regarding an issue had with an expensive item, also out of warranty.


Even thought the item is not in guarantee, you would obviously expect it to last longer costing £700.


Now apparantly the help available lies with the retailer, but all they can normally do is send it for repair...I contacted the manufacturer and they helped me out straight away.


Another thing is to go into the Argos store with your receipt and speak to the manger, sometimes they can be very understanding (I have seen instances before) and help you...but one thing to remember, start with "I wonder if you can help me...?" and stay calm, they are more likely to help you like that, and explain what has happened.
