RCA TV model 27v514t Diode shorted?

need help! TV purchased May 2006 (manufactured April 06) No problems till last week, TV was on. Sound/picture disappeared. Red power light remained illuminated. Tried to turn off tv, panel button AND remote button failed to turn it off. I unplugged the TV, plugged it back in and pressed the power button. RED power light flashes 25 times, goes steady, no pic/no sound. Same result with front panel and remote buttons.

I had the TV Serviced and the Diode had to be replaced. After picking the TV up and bringing it home, I plugged in the TV and it worked. I went to program my channels and poof the TV quit working again.

Does anyone have any idea on what would make the Diode short out again?

Depends which diode you are talking about !! I have never actually counted but there will be well over a dozen of various size and type !

Diodes usually fail because a fault has applied too much voltage , there is one diode called a zener diode that is designed to fail or go shorted , it is connected to the B+ rail and if the B+ rail rises above the designed voltage then the zener diode goes short and cuts off the power supply for the set.

There are the bridge rectifier diodes which are four in a pack which fail and blow the fuse when the voltage regulator in the power supply fails,

From this you can see that there is no easy answer with out the set in front of me and a bit of serious fault finding .

Your best course is to go back to shop and tell them, they most likely have a repair warranty.
