It sounds like you don't have your LCD TV set up properly. The only reason the actors are short and fat is due to the aspect ratio that your unit is set to. Step through the various aspect ratios until you find one that makes the actors appear normal. You do need to be aware that it is NORMAL to see black bars on the left and right of 4:3 programming when set to the proper aspect ratio.

As for why wide screen, it is because programming - both video via DVD and HD broadcasts are wide screen. If you have a wide screen DVD and have set everything up properly you should not have the sub title cut off. You may have it set to zoom mode.
Reply:Widescreen tvs mostly have a picture adjust button to adjust the viewing size from 4.3 (normal tv) to 16.9 (widescreen) and usually a zoom as well. With digital tv and high defenition now widescreen is awesome.

you have 4:3 postcard , 4:3 letterbox , 4:3 cropped , 16:9 widescreen these setings are on one tv plus other settings too
Reply:the reaon all lcd's are widescreen is because all modern programs are filmed in either 16.9 letterbox format so getting a 4.3 screen would cut about a 1/3 of the screen off

Hope this helps
Reply:A wide screen format has been chosen because your eyes are more comforatble viewing that shape.

as far as actors being short and fat, you really should read the manual before you use your electronic products.
