Stole a tv but put it back..jail time?

Stole a tv from work..I was going to borrow it for the Super Bowl and put it back afterwards. Well the camera caught me partially..not with the tv but hanging around work after my shift was up. They noticed the tv was missing from a room and called the cops who got finger prints and all from the scene. Decided it was a dumb idea and I put the tv back before the cops could find it in my possesion. They never actually knew the tv left the building I put it back in a different room. The detective is still all over me. I know it was dumb and stupid and WONT be doing it again. So my question is what can I be charged with ? They noticed the tv was missing from the room is was in..but I put it back in a different room(tv was too big to put back without being seen). but they still recovered it, no damages. As far as they know it never left the building. I am no longer working there..(they let me go because of another reason..lateness)..it never left the building..What charges can filed?

Bad news, burglary and grand theft...both felonies. From the information you provided, your former employer is pretty ticked off, and the likelihood of the employer filing charges is strong. I can't condone your actions, but my professional advice: next time the detective contacts you, tell him/her, "I won't answer any questions without first speaking to my lawyer.". You're on camera and will be arrested. So contact a criminal defense attorney ASAP.
Reply:In Canada once the police are involved they have to lay charges.. one time i did something stupid and stole some tires... i returned them to the store and the owner said he wasn't going to press charges but the police still did.....stick with your story... or else fess up and get it over with.. its not that big of a deal...or talk to a legal aid about it and they can give u some legal advice.. good luck
Reply:Does't sound like they have enough evidence to pursue it any further.

Just dont admit to anything - and if they keep asking you questions - tell them that you want to have a lawyer present.

Without evidence, or the ability to hound you into a confession - you probably won't get any charges files.
