If mexico is a Multi-racail nation???

Is Mexican Tv racist????
Have you looked at BET? All television stations favor people of certain appearances. Did you notice that on some all of the women are tall pale skinned and busty? I am sure that you will find similar things on Asian networks too. Racism can occur within a race. I agree that the people on Mexican television look white, maybe they are? Some Mexicans are white and some just look that way. 1% by the way is a very low percentage. In American TV Asians are severely underrepresented.
Reply:I watch Univision sometimes, they get a lot of Venezeualan programming and I think Puerto Rican too. I would say they are not just a sorry network
Reply:i find mexican latin chicks muy bonita ;]
Reply:You're very observant. Alot of the answer has to do with history, the history of repression, since the time of the conquistadors. Cinco de Mayo was a revolt against the French taking control, much like the American Revolution. My husband is Mexican and mestizo, mixed blood of Native Indian and Spanish. He grew up with the discrimination favoring whites of Spanish descent.

"Crazy February" is a good book I read in an anthropology class, describing the blatant discrimination that takes place on a daily basis, against people based on their class status, which is often determined by how they choose to dress. The movie "Ghandi" comes to mind, because he faced the same type of discrimination from the British control of India, even though he himself was British, he couldn't get any respect until he embraced his Native roots, and took a stand. Cesar Chavez's speeches will move you to tears if you ever check em out. He was perfectly soft spoken and logical about making progress, much in the same spirit as Dr. Martin Luther King, and yet there is a conspicuous lack of public recognition for his actions and inspiration here in America, at least among whites.

"Ask A Mexican" is an online forum where you can get a more informed answer than mine. Gustavo Arrellano is the journalist in orange county ,CA. It's carried by : www.the seattle weekly.com , he also wrote a book answering questions about cultural points of view. Thankfully times and attitudes are improving . Appreciation for Indian attitudes and natural beauty is growing. I saw alot of respect and trust on the job regarding the competency of Mexican/S.American workers in construction. There's always been a gap between reality and the fantasy that's portrayed on tv. Thankfully people are becoming more mature with every new generation. So, thanks for your question.
Reply:And you think American television tells the truth? Where the majority of the girls are beach babes and the guys have six-packs?? Why do they rarely show obese or fat people? Isn't around 40% of the American population fat (if not obese)?? They want to show what they consider "the positive side". I'm sure the same goes for Mexican television. What the h.el.l is with the "butt implant" comment??
Reply:many Mexican people consider blonde hair and blue eyes beautiful. I bet that if they had a show on Mexican TV that represented the Mexican population more realistically it would be pulled of the air because of low ratings. it's sad but that's why i don't watch Mexican TV.
Reply:Mexico is not racist, the reason is because it depends on the education of people. Mexico is not racist, it's people who are not white that don't like to study hard or work for anyone. They rather go out and sell tamales on the street or just start a small business in their homes.

I travel to Mexico or Tijuana and see that almost every home has a small kind of business and many selling in the streets are of dark complexion.

The Europeans who live in Mexico are educated and make a career as famous singers or actors and actresses.
Reply:thats nothing you should see asian anime cartoons....
Reply:Mexicans are Caucasian. There are actually only three races in the world; Caucasian, Mongolian, and Negr-oid. It's kind of tough to accuse Mexican TV of being racist when it's full of Caucasians--in a country that's 99% Caucasian.

They do, however, tend to put the more pleasant-looking people on the tube just like we do in America.

And I do apologize for putting the hyphen in Negr-oid but Yahoo apparently considers that word unacceptable although it most certainly is the proper name for that particular race. They kept putting asterisks in place of the word until I stuck in the hyphen. If I were black, I'd be very offended by that.
Reply:European beauty standards.
Reply:No, but they live by selling nice images, so always try to have pretty faces (according to mexican standard of beautyness).

And it is FALSE that only 9% of mexicans are white, although most of mexicans migrating to USA are not white it is because whites are in the dominant economic class mainly, not in poor; white do not need to leave México in order to live well enough.

I don't know why, but I can't send links to YouTube, you could go there and look for "Los Criollos en México" or "Los Altos de Jalisco" or "Mexican whites" and you will find out some interesting facts about white mexicans.
Reply:In every nation on earth the people on screen in locally or nationally produced shows are 'beautiful.' Because it sells advertising. Show identical ads with a '10' and a '2' in different parts of the country and the '2' doesn't sell. There really is no issue. There is no "Right" for a fat or ugly or creepy on even just-average-looking-Joe to be on TV. The only medium for them is the freak shows like Jerry springer etc. For being in the movies or on TV being 'beautiful' inside doesn't count. Race is an anthropological concept, not a biological or genetic one. And even if they are 'beautiful' as soon as they get a little older they are gone. It's called Life.
