Digital TV?

Hello,

I own a 42" Panasonic TH-42PX6OU tv with an old fashioned antenna(no cable or satelite, just normal local channels). I just moved to a new house recently and disposed the box which has the manual in it. I also have 2 old tv sets that obviously do not have the DTV requirements.

I just saw a commercial about DTV(digital tv), and I'm wondering if I need to buy a digital converter box that was said in the website? Also, if my Panasonic TV has that(assuming) and since I have 2 other television sets that work on "rabbit ears" antenna will I need the box?

Thanks in advance

Katherine

Digital TV?
No. That guy above is an Idiot.

Your New 42" HDTV Should definitly have the Digital TV Tuner Built-in. It's called an ATSC Tuner.

You DO NOT need the DTV Box for your New HDTV.

However, if you want to still use your other 2 Older TV's, then you will need a Box for Each of them.

Just get the Zenith Box. after the Government Coupon, its just $20 at Curcuit City.

Hope this Helps!! :)
Reply:The way I understand how it is going to work is what was a local analog TV station will still be transmitting a carrier on the same channel and at the same band width. The only change will be in the type of modulation they will be putting on the carrier. So - you will use the same antenna as before but you will have to feed it to the D/A converter first and then to your TV(s). What I don't know yet is if the converters will be broad banded like cable is, so that you change channels with the TV (or VCR in many cases) or if you will have to change them with the new converter box. If the converters are broad-banded, you will only need one antenna and one box for all your TVs (the way most cable systems work), if not, then you will need a box for each TV.
Reply:Your Panasonic has a digital (ATSC) tuner built in to it, so it doesn't need a converter box.

Most areas that have analog TV reception already have digital broadcasts available. Go into the TV's menu and have it scan for "All" channels. (See page 13 in the manual)

Digital and analog broadcasts use the same types of antennas. If you already get good analog reception, you shouldn't need a new antenna.

You will need two converter boxes for your other TVs to keep receiving over the air broadcasts. Using the government coupon program these will only cost you $10 - $20 each.

The converters connect between the antenna and the TV. Right now there are only a few models in the stores. The Zenith (Also sold as Insignia) model seems to be the best of the early models but there may be something better available by the time the government sends you your coupons.
Reply:Yes, you will definetly need a box.
