TV Licence?

should we have the right to choose if we want bbc and abolish the TV Licence if other channels can broadcast using tv ads to support it why cant bbc.the price for the TV Licence is discusting and the programmes on bbc these days are not all that good

TV Licence?
You got my vote
Reply:The TV Licence doesn't actually go straight to the BBC. The BBC is subsidised by the government - and the government sets the TV Licence and gets the money for it. So although most of the money from the TV Licence goes to the BBC, not all of it does. The TV Licence is basically like a tax on watching the television. I know it's expensive, and I do think it should cost less, but scrapping the TV Licence does not mean you'll just get read of the BBC and watch ITV etc

(and to be honest, would you really want to? The BBC is one of the best broadcasters in the world, and there's no way I would want to be stuck just with ITV and all that rubbish)
Reply:The BBC is great and I'd rather pay my TV license than sit through endless crummy adverts.
Reply:does dolly parton sleep on her back
Reply:I totally agree with you, I would give up on the few programs I watch on the BBC if it meant I didn't have to pay this outrageous license fee.
Reply:Definately !!!
Reply:I haven't had a licence for over 30 years. They keep harassing me to get one. I do not have a television.
Reply:totally agree
Reply:It's only a small liberal/left minority who want the BBC TV Licence to stay. They know what a cushy number they have forcing everyone to subsidise them. What annoys me the most is when they say how great value it is for THEM!
Reply:This is an old question.

I stopped watching television altogether 7 years ago. It is complete crap in my opinion.

Not withstanding the above...The BBC is the finest broadcaster in the world bar none. So if you want lowest common denominator broadcasting like the ITV to be the industry standard, carry on.

Does anyone worry that as we evolve...we get thicker?

In the 60's, we questioned if The Beatles were important...Now we worry if Sharon Osbourne isn't???

What a cheap planet we live on...
Reply:Do you listen to BBC radio? If so your licence pays for that as well.

I do have to agree though the licence fee is way way to high. Wait until they start charging you to view stuff on "iplayer".

Just do what I have done have an OAP live with you then the licence is free!!! Don't know what I''ll do when she leaves this earth probably just get rid of the TV. How many channels are there these days and nothing on any of them.
Reply:I totally agree.its a scandal.
Reply:I am not going to buy a new tv until I get decent progs to watch
