Using tv as a pc monitor?

i've been trying to figure out how to connect my pc to my tv both my tv and my pc have vga and s-video holes but no matter which way i plug them in they wont c each other. i even got an s-video to rca cable to hook my pc (or anything else i can fine a use for it ) up to my projector.i put the s-video into the pc and the rca side into the tv still nothing. the tv has a few different outputs and i've been checking those. theres an av for the rca cables a channel for s-vid and vg one for hdmi (but i dont use it i just know its there) along with some other channels like that i can use. can someone help me out what i'm doing wrong, if i need to configure my pc in some way or i need more equipment.

Have you tried s-vid to s-vid? Seems to me that converting the signal might be counterproductive.
Reply:Ok, of those connections, you want to be using VGA, no s-video. It's of a much higher quality, so concentrate on that.

If neither of the 2 connections have worked as of yet, have you checked that the graphics card and ports on your PC are actually working? If you generally know the sort of thing you should be doing but can't get it to work, I would suggest testing it on someone else's TV (or using someone else's PC on yours).

You do need to turn on the external device before it will output any signal to it, but if as you say they won't 'see each other' I assume you have tried this but failed?
Reply:If you use RCA to S video you need to configure you computer to output through s video and also you need to change the resolution as usually rca can't handle the resolution of VGA output........

1.If you have VISTA (similar process to XP) right click on your desktop

2.select properties or personalise

3.select display options

and change the settings there...lower the resolution

ALSO try to use an s-video to s-video cable rather than a s to rca....

You also need an audio cable BEST to use is:

3.5mm to 2 rca cable (headphone jack to red and white connection)

You can't just plug in a s video to rca and expect to work. I did the same thing LOL%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;
