TV problem - sound distortion?

When watching tv via the freeview box the sound occasionally becomes distorted by a buzzing noise.

When the freeview box is unplugged the put back in again the problem goes but returns again after about three minutes.

Its a decent freeview box and it works on the other tv's in the house, so im thinking it might be the actual tv, or a scart problem?

But im not that advanced in electronics, so could antone offer their views or suggestions??

TV problem - sound distortion?
It does sound like a poor earth connection and may be associated with the scart lead plug or even the socket in the t.v. Try reversing the scart lead if scart to scart. I have had problems with gold plated scart leads before also and fitting a standard one helped.
Reply:This happened to me!

Check that the scart plug is firmly connected to the freeview box and tv and make sure it remains that way, sometimes if the scart plug is loose or coming out abit it makes a fuzzing or humming noise.

Just check all your connections, its dead easy, so try that!

Hope that works
Reply:Is the buzzing from the TV speakers or from the TV or the Freeview box?

Is it a plasma or lcd tv ?

How to watch TV on my Laptop(from my tv)???

I am trying to find a way to be able to watch tv on my laptop by connecting it to my tv?

I have a tv tuner so please dont recommend one of these as that is not what im asking for...

I have the cables as if i were to watch a movie from my laptop through my tv, but is there a program where i can do this in reverse?

How to watch TV on my Laptop(from my tv)???
You need an external TV tuner to watch TV on your laptop. You must connect the cable to the TV tuner and the TV tuner to the USB. Type external TV tuner on USB TV tuner on the web or on ebay and find one for yourself.
Reply:I won't recommend a tv tuner. However, did you install the software that came with the TV tuner? Usually the software is included and is needed prior to viewing anything on your laptop. If not, this is the first step to achieving your goal. Next make sure that your current cable is split so that a signal can go into your tv and your laptop.

Tv on pc with usb tv tuner?

i have a new pc running vista with windows media centre i want to be able to watch and record tv on my computer from what i understand you can buy a usb tv tuner is this correct will it work?

Tv on pc with usb tv tuner?
Here is one place.
Reply:I think you need one with at least a dual tuner, so you can watch one channel and record another, and also one that's approved by Vista.

Also, i know a lot of people use a separate hard disk to keep their recorded programs on, like a dedicated PVR, personal video recorder .. depends on your usage.
Reply:Yip, I bought one last week. It works but unless you have a really good aeriel or are going to plug cable or sat into it, or can access digital freeview (not quite sure how it works) dont bother, as the quality is not great.

I used to use my pc as a tv before, and bought a tv tuner that could take cable, it was great. Very Handy. I would recommend Hauppage.
Reply:Oh yes, and it is great. I got a tv tuner with my HP laptop/tablet. Hp has tuners for their machines.

It works well.

I also have a haugpagge set up on the Dell [26" screen]

It plays, records, does live signals. The TV tuners are just great.
Reply:TV TUNNER IS AWSOME BUT JUST MAKE SURE YOU REINSTALL COMPUTER MORE CORRECTLY IF YOU EVER PLAN ON RECORDING TV SHOWS ON YOUR COMPUTER CAUSE IT WILL GET MORE FRAGMENTED(VERY SLOW) IF NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED!!!

Reinstall Computer as Suggested on website below and you shall NEVER AGAIN HAVE PROBLEMS AT ALL!!!

Reply:It will work fine as long as the tv tuner is windows vista compatible. Then you will be able to watch and record TV on your pc. Good luck and hope this helps.

Addicted to TV?

Is it possible to be addicted to watching tv?

Someone I know litterally sits infront of the tv non-stop. She goes to work and comes home and just sits there ... and even if shes reading a book the tv HAS to be on ... If she wants a nap its infront of the tv .. I mean litterally she eats sleeps drinks infront of the tv ... If there was a way to have a tv plugged in the bathroom I'm sure there'd be one.

Even when she visitors the tv is on (it's really rude)she even calls people to talk to them about whats on the tv.

I don't get it.. WHY?

Addicted to TV?
Sounds like she may have a problem, but she either doesn't realize it or doesn't care. You need to find out which and either help her or if she's unwilling to change let her be. Hopefully some day she'll start wanting more out of life.
Reply:Well it is odd but some people can get addictive towards things.
Reply:Hummm . . . It does sound like she is addicted to tv !

However my nan does that, she says it is because she doesn't like the sound of a quiet house - so she has her tv on the loudest possible volume thing.
Reply:yes, some stupid women cant liv without the t.v on.lol
Reply:lol. sounds like me. lol. tv is addictive. and entertaining. fun to talk about. learn new things like on HGTV. and see all the actors that get paid to be stupid. its all fun to watch and talk about.

but when I read this question, it sounds EXACTLY like me. lol. yes, I think it is funny. I don't go to anyone's house though. just stay home.
Reply:you can get hooked to it, i guess.
Reply:i personally likes very much to look at t.v but not that much. Maybe t.v is her everything and so she wants to always to occupied doing something when idle and the only thing is watch t.v. or maybe there are alot of t.v shos that intersest her u never knos
Reply:I suggest getting your friend out of the house and AWAY from tv. She might be a media fiend. Maybe she doesn't have enough interesting things in her life, go out to a bar, do something crazy. Just drag her butt into your car and go for a joy ride. Listen to some music and dance with her. Just get her active.
Reply:She hasn't been introduced to any other hobbies, like practicing a musical instrument, or working out. You have to make her see that there are more things than work and television.
Reply:well I'm thinking shes lonely if she has a boyfriend or husband shes sad or trying to give him the silent treatmeant i don't really know anyone who's that addicted but its probably and emotion thing
Reply:It's better to be a TV addicted than a drug addicted.

Why won't my TV respond to a remote?

There is nothing wrong with the remote itself - we have two of the same TV and two different remotes and both TV's use to work for both remotes. Now one tv still works fine for both remotes and the other won't respond to either remote at all. I'd just get up and change the channel but I can't turn the tv/vcr mode on or off without a remote. Anyone have any suggestions?? How can I get my TV to be receptive to the romote or does anyone know how to get the TV on and off the tv/vcr mode without the remote??? I just want to be able to use the tv with the dvd player and game system. I don't have the manual anymore and I'm not taking a cheap TV to the repair shop. (The only buttons on the actual TV are volume, channel, and menu.)

Why won't my TV respond to a remote?
Check to be sure that the sensor on the TV is not blocked by something, or dirty. You may be able to access the TV's functions by holding down a combination of the buttons on the front of the TV.
Reply:maybe the battery in your remote is dead. or you need a new tv. i dont know ?
Reply:maybe the battery's dead
Reply:If your remotes are universal programmable remotes, you might try reprogramming them for the TV that has quit responding to them. Otherwise, the remote sensor on you're TV might be damaged or dirty. TV/VCR mode is normally a command on the VCR. You might also try to program the remotes for the VCR itself and the TV.
Reply:maybe the infrared eye is blocked or dirty on the TV in question. That's the first thing I'd check..

52" LCD TV FULL HD, has Audio but no picture, any help?

I have a seven month old 52" LCD TV FULL HD(Samsung). Up until last night, the TV has worked well. I turned the TV off using the remote however, when I turned it on this morning, there was audio, all functions, but no picture but when you look very closely at the screen you should be able to see the image changing, but as there is no back light there is no luminescence so it will appear black. After two days it starts to work perfect again. Three days after I am with the same problem. this is the third time with this problem. first time was two month ago and the tv starts to work perfect after 5 min. Now If I wait for 5 to 6 hours and switch on the TV again the TV works normally. So it seems that the TV needs 5 to 6 hrs of 'rest' before it can work normally again after a viewing.

The problem usually happens when I switch off the TV for the day and switch it on again the next day. Please I need to know, what the problem is? What is the cost to fix it?

52" LCD TV FULL HD, has Audio but no picture, any help?
Hi,

Here what, that should not happen to your TV or any tv out there. Such things like no picture but sound or reverse is clearley faulty circuit board(s). Since you are still under the 1 year manufacturers waranty, why dont you get it fixed, you don't pay a cent withing the fanufacturer's period. Not sure about the shiping cost though, but give them a call and find out. Did you know that if it cannot be fixed, they'll give a new one, either the exact model or a newer model!

Good Luck!
Reply:I sell TV's and all the Tv's we sell come with at least a one year warranty so you should be covered through the place you bought.

TV's: Widescreen vs Fullscreen?

Ok I am trying to decide wether to get a widescreen tv or a fullscreen tv. I realize that most things are starting to be shown in widescreen and I actually prefer it but some things are not. If I were to play a fullscreen movie, tv show or video game on a widescreen lcd tv, would it mess up the picture in any way? What about if I play a widescreen movie, tv show or video game on fullscreen lcd tv? will it stretch the picture out or anything?

TV's: Widescreen vs Fullscreen?
WIDESCREEN! Videogames will just have a bigger play area and it will not stretch anything full screen movies just dont take up the whole screen

How to get s-video color on TV?

This is a query about how to adjust color on my s-video output:

from my ze4230 to a Roadstar TV, model / serial CTN-BB, made in the EU.

Am connecting the s-video output from my ze4230 to a scard /s video adapter on the TV.

On ze4230 Have Radeon IGP 340M video card, driver "ati2mgtag.sys" dated May 2004, and is supported.

The scard/ s video adapter to the TV is working fine as I usually watch my dvd's from my dvd player via this adapter.

I am using a TV that is located in Malta and the color screen on my TV s-video input is difficult to see when connected to the s video input.

I adjusted the settings on my ze4230 to reflect I am in Malta with the TV s-video connection.

The picture and colors showing on the TV are not right when connected this way.

The color on the TV from the ze4230 is not right and there is a flickering that seems to come from the color portion of the input. The Ze4230 screen is fine.

When the TV is adjusted to show only black and white, in effect turning off the color on the TV, the screen appears fine, clear and crystal sharp, no flickering, but then I have no color on the TV portion of what appears in color on my laptop LCD screen.

I wish to have the color on the TV and 'monitor' my LCD onto the TV.

I tried turning off the notebook LCD and only viewing via the S-video, but that does not solve the problem.

What adjustment, if any, (in detail please) must I make to assure that the information on TV screen will appear clear and in full color, also with no problems.

Please advise,

Thank you in advance.

Set TV to accept input from S-Video and change laptop resolution to 800 x 640 which is maximum resolution for S-Video.

TV-Oout problem, trying getting VGA to RCA adapter to work, Intel GMA Mobile thinks my TV is a monitor?

I just bought a new cheapo VGA to RCA/S-video adapter from Ebay hearing that they work fine. I have a Dell B120 laptop with "Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family" graphics accelerator driver version 6.14.10.4410 using XP Home. The laptop only has a vga out, but from what I understand the Intel GMA has native TV-Out support.

So I plug the adapter into the vga port, and connect it to the RCA Video on my Sylvania TV. I go to Display Properties%26gt;Settings%26gt;Advanced%26gt;I... GMA Tab%26gt;Graphics properties. I can activate 'clone screen' from there. When I do I get a rolling staticy image on the screen. I can tell it's trying to display the image, because when I change the screen on the laptop, there is a noticable difference in the rolling static on my TV.

I noticed that when I go to the 'Graphics Properties', it says the second screen is a monitor, not TV(640x480@8bit@60hz -the ONLY option). Is that my problem? If so, how do I make it realize its a TV? Any other suggestions?

TV-Oout problem, trying getting VGA to RCA adapter to work, Intel GMA Mobile thinks my TV is a monitor?
Try going into the properties for the 'monitor' and check the screen refresh rate. a rolling screen means that the rate is out of sync. Don't go up too high as this could damage your equipment.

The Chipset may have native TV out support but without the connector from the board it won't be available.

TV RGB Input?

I have a plasma TV and it has got a RGB input. There is a few things i needed to know.

Firstly, Will I be able to connect my PC to my TV via the RGB slot in the back of my TV?

Secondly, Will the picture quality be good if I use my TV to watch films from my pc? (I have a 42" HD Ready LG plasma)

Thirdly, Is it possible to connect both my PC monitor and TV at the same but (I only want to watch films on the TV, the monitor will be used for everything else)

I have an acer T180 computer. It's a pretty good computer but it's all pretty standard stuff. no fancy graphics cards.

Thanks

TV RGB Input?
I think that you will need to upgrade. the t180 I just looked up has a sempron cpu and no grifix card. I believe you shouldn't try to connect them. Yes you can find a way, but i still would say don't. Using a wrong broadcasting format can hurt your T.V. Even a poor card with s-video out and a s-video to rgb connector can be used but if it won't change the format....

just fyi, do you know that there are two types of rgb connections?Y,Cr,Cb, and Y,Pb,Pr. don't waste cash. waste some time learning the correct way.
Reply:Hi. Most monitors have an 'S-video' input and a lot of graphics cards do as well. You MAY be happy with the picture but it will not be HD quality. The better the PC and graphics card the happier you will be.
Reply:superb plasma with HD

u Can connect it but one thning if ur pc is old like celron then its waste to connect and if its P4 or Amd 64 then u can connect it via RGB and out put will be good depending upon ur VGA memory and its possible to connect both pc and tv at the same time but u need a god grahphic card which support dual output

and has dual rgb slot or one rgb and one svideo slot or rgb svideo and hd slot.

FiOS TV or Comcast? My HD TV has QAM tuner. Don't want prem movies. Want digtl music. Can I avoid settop box?

I've spent hours reading print %26amp; online articles %26amp; checking Websites for info. Still having trouble piecing it together. My HD TV has digital ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuners built in. I've read that a QAM tuner allows you to view unscrambled digital channels thru Comcast cable without needing a set top box (I would pay for Comcast digital cable with extended basic but no premium movie channels, no on-demand, no other add-ons). I'd like to listen to digital music channels thru my audio receiver but don't know if that would work without a set top box. I have 3 RG6 coax jacks in my house %26amp; would prefer no set top boxes (extra cost, hardware, clutter, %26amp; remotes). I was leaning toward FiOS TV until I found out that my TV's QAM tuner would do nothing when on FiOS TV--for FIOS, think I need an HD set top box for main TV %26amp; a basic set top box for music in another room (different jack). Have checked Verizon FiOS TV and Comcast FAQs %26amp; sites %26amp; talked to reps. Incomplete info. Still puzzled. Any advice?

FiOS TV or Comcast? My HD TV has QAM tuner. Don't want prem movies. Want digtl music. Can I avoid settop box?
yes you need a box for fios for every tv, no you cant get comcast music without a box--that is entended basic. have had comcast now i have fios, am also a fios installer.
Reply:Thanks for your responses. I had no computer for a few days so lost chance to vote. I chose FiOS TV with 2 set top boxes. FYI to FiOS installer who responded: my 3rd coax jack (no STB) CAN get the 16 local channels only. The 2 jacks with STBs get 200+ channels. Quite happy with FiOS TV. Report It

Reply:I'm new to this too, i too bought a tv with a QAM tuner. To my knowledge, my tv receives the digital channels through the air. no cable is needed to watch the digital tv stations and music stations.

I spoke to the tech department at Philips and the woman told me that I was lucky to be getting any channels, some people weren't getting any channels through their QAM tuners. The numbering system makes no sense for the digital channels. I was able to pick up a ton of music channels and the only "premium" channel I saw was Encore. I live in the Philadelphia area.

The woman also told me that I may not always get the same channels due to reception issues. I have not watched the digital channels enough to see if a channel lost reception while viewing it.

Here is a link I found useful too:

TV censorship?

Does anyone have any good websites besides wikipedia that can give me the history of censorship on TV. For example how did it all start, did someone complain to the government because they saw something bad on TV. What they can and cannot allow on TV. I don't know if this is true but during a George Carlin comedy byte he disscussed how a preacher turned on the radio and was offended by the profanity he heard on the radio and filed a complaint. Is censorship a violation of the first amendment or is there exceptions?

Which New HD TV?? For xbox 1080p??Help!?

Hi,

I have currently got a standard 17 inch lcd tv. Obviously, so that I can get the best out of my xbox 360 premium console, i would like to buy a hd tv.

I would like the biggest size flat screen hd tv as possible, so that the graphics are at their best. Also, can I make it hd with the premium console, the cable that allows you to switch between standard and hd, does that do it.

Also how do you know if the televison you buy supports the maximum 1080p setting?

I have a budget of £250 and would like the biggest tv size possible, hd, that supports the highest hd setting (1080i/p?)

Any recommendations?

P.s on the 17 inch the writing is small, with a bigger tv will that problem not arise?

Thanks in advance,

Which New HD TV?? For xbox 1080p??Help!?
£250 won't get you far you will need around £500.

To get the best you need 1080p - this standard is called FULL HD (most descriptions will say whether its 1080p or or or 720.

You also want high resolution, brightness and contrast - but as I said you will be unlikely to get a large 1080p tv for udner £500.

Its not just the tv, you need HDMI ports and cablles (the more expensive the better (you're looking around £20ish +).

Pop into somewheer like richer sounds and chat with the guys.

Also beware of buying a brand - I understand that Sony and Samsung make their tv's in the same factory - but you pay a hell of a lot more for one of them - I'll let you guess which.
Reply:If the TV supports 1080p, it'll say so right on the TV's frame. That's not a problem.

You'll want a HDTV that has at least one HDMI port.

The problem I see you having is that you don't have a whole lot of money. In the US, anyways, most HDTVs in the 30-40 inch range around US$600-700 (US$2 ~= 1GBP) at a minimum. US$1000 seems to be the sweet spot between size, performance and price. That'll get you a decent set that supports 1080p.
Reply:Also, keep in mind that unless the TV is 40" or more you will NOT notice a difference between 1080p and 720p.

Tv guide channel?

Hi, I just got direct tv today and still trying to figure how the channels. Does anyone know what channel tv guide is on for direct tv?

Tv guide channel?
They got rid of TV Guide because everything is going Digital. No more roaming Television anymore, you need the hook-up.

But since you have Direct, it should be an option on you're remote, or something like that. Direct should have their own type of Channel Viewing Guide

Technika lcd 151d-107 tv?

this tv has built in freeview, however the sound on all the stations is very crackly and fine tuning does not correct it.

the signal strength indicated on the display bar is about 95 % strong. the picture quality is perfect, no ghosting or pausing or pixel problens. the same rooftop aerial feed another freeview unit which is not built into the other tv and this has worked fine for 2 yrs.

i have connected the technika tv upto my other rooftop aerial but still the same crackling noise.

aerial connections are good and new.

today i connected my stand alone freeview box to the technika tv using a scart plug and the picture is good and the sound excellent no noise problem.

to me this says the signal coming from the rooftop aerials are good if they were bad i would get this crackling noise on the other stand alone freeview box when used on the other tv.

this noise on the technika tv is so bad it is not possible to hear the dialogue of the shows.

any suggestions

Technika lcd 151d-107 tv?
Sorry to say, but this is a common problem with very cheap products like Technika.

Due to poor quality components used to make the television (which is how they can sell them so cheaply), the sound quality will suffer. The fact you have a decent picture is just lucky, as that's usually poor, as well.

Your best bet is to return it for a refund and buy something from Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Toshiba, etc.

Always remember, "Buy cheap, buy twice".

Tv show life obsession..help me?
Really, this is a hard habit to break. Although I didn't watch any more than two hours a day, it had an impact on me and I didn't realize how bad it was until we gave it to our aunt. Then I noticed that I wasn't gaining anything but wasting time.

The hardest thing to do is to get rid of it. But, it's most effective. Something else you could do is to turn the TV so that if faces the wall or cover it with an old blanket so that it's look won't tempt you into watching it. You could also put it in the basement, or another room you don't go into often. Try to not talk or think about TV either.

You also said that you rely on people on TV to make decisions. That's not healthy either. The next time you have to make a hard decision, pray or read relevant Biblical passages. Another option is asking your parents or someone else you trust.

Finally, there's so many other things you can do outside. I recommend fishing, hiking, or picking berries. Or you could get involved in sports or volunteer somewhere. Just keep your mind off TV

I hope this helps.
Reply:try cutting out TV from daily activities, for for a walk instead or join an arobics class or something to keep you occupied so you don't have to watch tv.

♥-good luck!
Reply:UNPLUG THE TV lol jk
Reply:I used to do the exact same thing! But what I did to stop it was I thought, "Is this really me? Or am I just living someone else's life?" Also, when you say these things, you are making it harder for yourself to have your own good judgment. You're trying to get into someone else's mind and make their responses your own. It's not healthy. Think to yourself, "How do my friends react when I act like Brook? Am I trying to be cool? What impression am I making on people?" I think because the people on TV are portrayed as always having the right answers, people turn to their form of character to help them live their life. In the TV shows that these people are in, a script writer made up what they were going to say, and they also made sure that what ever problem happened in that episode would be resolved. But in reality, not everything always works out perfectly like it does on TV. For me, it ended in the loss of a very once-strong friendship. So, I think you should first, limit TV time. Also, if you have an issue that you would normally turn to the TV to get help with, try talking to your friends about help, or your parents, or who ever your close to. Lastly, every time you feel yourself starting to 'impersonate' a TV character, stop and think about what YOU would really say. You need to be your own person.

How to get TV to channel 3?

I have a Panasonic TV/VCR combo. I turn the TV on and all I get is a blue screen. I have AT%26amp;T Uverse for a cable to get different channels. I tried the TV remote and the cable Uverse remote. Neither do anything other than turn the TV on and off. When i go the the channel controls on the bottom of the TV and run through them, I can go through the channels but it skips channel 3. It starts on channel 2 and jumps to channel 8? How do I get to channel 3?

How to get TV to channel 3?
On the TV/VCR remote, make sure it's set to TV mode and press 03 , then Enter....

If that doesn't work, make sure your UVerse cable box is turned on, then use your TV/VCR remote to access the TV menu....

In the menu, look for a Channel or Autoprogram mode....

You might find those located in SETUP....

And you MAY have to set your remote control to the VCR mode if you don't find it....

Then just AUTOPROGRAM it....

Autoprogramming makes the tuner scan all available channels, locks out unused channels and locks IN channels that are present on your TV's Antenna connector....

That's why you want your UVerse box turned on....IF your TV doesn't see the UVerse's Channel 3 it will not lock in on it.....
Reply:batteries dead?
Reply:plug in the number 3 in your remote
Reply:Are the batteries in the remote dead?

Is there a menu button on the front of the television? The problem is that channel 3 isn't programmed in to the memorized channels on the TV.

Personally I'd ditch the VCR in favor of something with RCA inputs...I realize that doesn't help your situation, but just my two cents.
Reply:does it have a number pad? if it does, just type channel 3, hit menu, and hit add channel

TV Licence?

should we have the right to choose if we want bbc and abolish the TV Licence if other channels can broadcast using tv ads to support it why cant bbc.the price for the TV Licence is discusting and the programmes on bbc these days are not all that good

TV Licence?
You got my vote
Reply:The TV Licence doesn't actually go straight to the BBC. The BBC is subsidised by the government - and the government sets the TV Licence and gets the money for it. So although most of the money from the TV Licence goes to the BBC, not all of it does. The TV Licence is basically like a tax on watching the television. I know it's expensive, and I do think it should cost less, but scrapping the TV Licence does not mean you'll just get read of the BBC and watch ITV etc

(and to be honest, would you really want to? The BBC is one of the best broadcasters in the world, and there's no way I would want to be stuck just with ITV and all that rubbish)

Reply:I haven't had a licence for over 30 years. They keep harassing me to get one. I do not have a television.
Reply:totally agree
Reply:It's only a small liberal/left minority who want the BBC TV Licence to stay. They know what a cushy number they have forcing everyone to subsidise them. What annoys me the most is when they say how great value it is for THEM!
Reply:This is an old question.

I stopped watching television altogether 7 years ago. It is complete crap in my opinion.

Not withstanding the above...The BBC is the finest broadcaster in the world bar none. So if you want lowest common denominator broadcasting like the ITV to be the industry standard, carry on.

Does anyone worry that as we evolve...we get thicker?

In the 60's, we questioned if The Beatles were important...Now we worry if Sharon Osbourne isn't???

What a cheap planet we live on...
Reply:Do you listen to BBC radio? If so your licence pays for that as well.

I do have to agree though the licence fee is way way to high. Wait until they start charging you to view stuff on "iplayer".

Just do what I have done have an OAP live with you then the licence is free!!! Don't know what I''ll do when she leaves this earth probably just get rid of the TV. How many channels are there these days and nothing on any of them.
Reply:I totally agree.its a scandal.
Reply:I am not going to buy a new tv until I get decent progs to watch

Tv showing thru when I play a DVD???

I have a dvd player and I brought a good quality scart lead for it..... but when I plug it in to watch a dvd sometimes you can kind of see the normal tv channels thru it which is really annoying.... The dvd doesnt seem to have a specific channel like when you play a playstation ect... so im stumped.... I cant tune it in or anything onto its own channel either.... plus I cant unplug the tv ariel because that just makes the dvd screen fuzzy :-( :-( :-(...... my tv has 2 scart sockets but it happens which ever one i use.... any ideas????

Tv showing thru when I play a DVD???
I am sure you have a specific channel you need to tune in to watch the DVD. Please refer to the manual. My TV has 3 video inputs and depending on which video input my DVD is hooked up to I switch to that video channel by pressing V1/V2/V3 key on my remote and then play the DVD. If you have just one video input you can use a switch to toggle between cable and dvd. It's hard to say anything unless I know more about your configuration.
Reply:Try using component video, if your TV has an input for it.

TV Replacement at Best Buy...?

If the Best Buy geek squad people decide to replace your TV, how exactly will they do it? Will they give credit? Or will they replace it with another TV that costs how much the TV you bought did?

TV Replacement at Best Buy...?
They will give you a credit for "Comparable technology."

Example:

My friend had a Pentium 4 laptop with 512mb of RAM. It was about $1600 at the time.

She got it replaced finally, and they gave her a credit for $1000, to buy another laptop. They decided on $1000 because they had a model there with a dual core processor, and 1gb of RAM, for 1k. She then chose to use the $1000 credit and purchase a $1300 laptop (thus adding $300). She could have gotten just the $1000 laptop and not had to pay anything, but she opted to add money because she needs to computer for school.

I expect you'll do a similar run-around for your TV. You were the guy who asked about the 52" CRT Sony. They'd probably price out a 52" or so, DLP set, since that's pretty much comparable. That will be about $800-1000. You can probably press for them to price out the Sony DLP, as opposed to another brand by arguing that Sony has better TVs than the other ones.

At this point say they give you $900. You can then use that to get the model they priced the replacement as (ie, the model they show you is the amount of credit you get, so you could walk out of the store with that TV and not pay any more money). You can also chose to take that $900, add like $200 more or so, and buy like a 61" DLP. I'm guessing you won't want to take the $900 and buy an LCD, because you'd only get a 37" or so TV. They won't give you a 50" LCD, because that's massive money, and you had only purchased a CRT TV.

You'll also probably want to buy a new PSP if you get a new TV, as your existing PSP does not transfer to the new television.

EDIT: Any set you get from them will probably be an improvement over your previous set. Your CRT was probably only 1080i, but nowadays all DLP sets are 1080p. So you'll get an upgrade there, plus probably more inputs, features, etc.
Reply:Why if they Decide? If you bought the Replacement plan, Your Golden.

So they don't have your same TV Model/make?

Usually they would just replace it with the same Model.

%26amp; you have to pay for a New Replacement plan. (Outta Pocket)

If it's not there, they'll give you credit for the amount you pd.

ANY IDEAS ?????????

If you have a meter, you should measure the voltage coming out of the outlet. You should measure 120 volts. Or try taking the tv to another outlet in the house. Don't use an extension cord, if you can help it. You may need an electrician.

3rd party PVR/TV Tuner program?

I was looking for a 3rd party program that does what the ATI Catalyst Media Center does, or similar. The CMC connects to my TV Tuner (TV Wonder 200 PCI) and acts as a DVR (PVR or TiVo) as well as receive a schedule for the TV programing and allows me to watch the TV. It is just a bit slow and choppy for my tastes and was wondering if anyone knew the name of another program the would allow me to watch tv from my tuner. Recording is something that would be sweet, but not really that necessary.

3rd party PVR/TV Tuner program?
I use GBPVR, it works great, just like tivo, it's free, but you need to find a third party tv listings to ad to it. I couldn't find a free one for my area, but the one I got is $20 a year.

TV and audio system buy?

I'm going to buy a TV and a Sound system. My budget is 1500$. I found 50" vizio p720 TV for 1200$ and RCA 5.1 1000W surround sound system for 150$ at walmart. I checked in internet but TV sold at internet were bad deal. I'm gonna check out bestbuy tommorrow. What would be the good choice?

TV and audio system buy?
Vizio is rated at the bottom on consumer reports but they also give them really good ratings on what they test it on (ie picture quality, sound, viewing angle etc). I think for what you pay it is a nice tv, two of my friends have a Vizio and they haven't complained about them yet. As for a surround sound system I wouldn't go with the RCA. I would look into a Sony system, Onkyo or Denon (all out of the box system since you won't have enough to buy individually)

On an LCD TV, what's the difference between the HDMI input and the three chord inputs (red, green and blue)?

I have an XBox 360 that came with the HD Chords that have the different colors (regular ones are yellow red and white) rather than the one input chord that goes right into the HDMI pluggin on the back of the TV. The box that it came in says something like "HD component cables" but when I switch the input to the HD setting on the tv itself it says no signal so it's not going through my HD signal on the TV but rather the matching colors (I think the colors are red, green and blue) but the box says those should be HD also. So what's the difference between the two chords and where they go in the tv itself? I do notice a difference when I use the red green and blue chords verses the red white and yellow ones, but I just want to know what the difference is and why it's not showing up on my HD tv setting? Sorry this is so long, any help?

On an LCD TV, what's the difference between the HDMI input and the three chord inputs (red, green and blue)?
The difference between HDMI and Component (red, green, blue) is that HDMI is digital while Component is analog, since HDMI is digital, it sends a better image to the television because it dosen't take a digital image, turn it into analog, then reconvert to digital again, also, it sends extra anti-piracy data to keep from people copying, this varies depending on the media being displayed

Component cables are mainly used on CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) based HDTVs, this goes for CRT rear projection televisions, CRT tube televisions, and CRT projectors (projectors with red, green, and blue individual tubes, kind of like rear projection televisions) being that CRT tubes can't support digital signals

Contrary to what gman said, component CAN support 1080p
Reply:The 3 (red, green and blue cords) are for analog hd which maxes out at 1080i, the hdmi is a digital signal cable which goes to 1080p. The source on your tv should be from component source (rgb cords) not hdmi (hdmi cable). The yellow, red and white cords are for audio (red and white) and yellow for composite video (not hd at all). Hope this helps end the confusion. You are actually getting high definition from the rgb cables (1080i), just not 1080p if you used an hdmi cable.

How to fix my tv.?

I have one tv in my house (19" tube tv), so I've unplugged it and moved it from my living room to my bedroom and back almost everyday. And when I've had it in my bedroom, I've set it on the ironing board, so when I've needed to iron in the mornings, I would take the tv off and lay it face down on the bed, and do my ironing. Well, one day, I had it laying face down all day, and set it up in the living room, plugged it in, and cable in the back, and now it looks hazy, like a white film is on the channels and is fuzzy, and has thin blue lines across it. I don't know what happened, but I don't have a degaus option on the tv, and no matter how much I unplug it and try and reset it, it's still like that. I assume when I had it laying face down, maybe it strained some wires inside of it. If I want to open up the back of the tv (unplugged), is it safe to work on it and check for loose wires? Or does a tv store power and could kill me?

Thanks for all suggestions.

How to fix my tv.?
You AIN'T gonna DIE!

First, the MOST LIKELY THING THAT HAPPENED......

You had your hand on the BACK of the TV set and accidently mis-adjusted the SCREEN CONTROL UP.....

Now you have to adjust it down.....

Gotta small Flat Blade screwdriver? You'll probably need it to turn it down....

Look on the BACK of the TV set.....in the Lower RIGHT corner, you should see two TINY knobs....the top is FOCUS, the BOTTOM is SCREEN.....adjust the bottom one down until the blue lines and the foggyness disappears......

Too LOW and your picture gets TOO BLACK.....

It's a fine adjustment, may only have to turn it 1° or 2 ° at the most.....
Reply:i do not know this question' somebody please help me.

i new at this. i do not know this person question
Reply:It's time to get a new TV. You can easily upgrade for free if you keep your eyes open. I see those TVs on the side of the road weekly because some people have too many as it is.
Reply:if it has av jacks try hooking up a dvd player to it and see if you get a pic, if so then the cable hookup needs replaced. probable time for a new one.

If I were you, I would just go ahead and buy the new one now. I couldn't tell you how to fix it if you paid me. You have to have electronics experience, be able to read a schematic, and skill with a VOM, among other things.

Besides, Daewoos are a piece of junk and weren't made to be serviced. No parts available either. You done got what you paid for, my friend. Next time, perhaps you'll spend a little more.
Reply:Peachy is trying to say " don`t you dare by-pass the on / off switch and use the wall socket switch as a temp measure !!!, Of course if you are not financially challenged then take Peachy`s very good advice and get your new one early !!

Cheers Pete.

Look TV Tech that description of yours is cruel !!! we can not get bargains like that jn Australia !! I was almost drooling and making travel plans to come to the States !!

Cheers Pete
Reply:If it's still under warrantee, put it in for free repairs. If not, it is unfortunate that most modern electronics are so miniaturized and integrated that they cost more to repair than to replace.
Reply:It's toast. This is god's way of telling you it's time for a new TV.
Reply:[laughs] Welllllll, you don't have much of a choice anymore my friend....If the button inside fell off, there's no way to restore operation without some time and investment into the old TV....

And you might as well RE-Invest it into your new TV....

For $900 you can be sitting pretty with a full blown 51 inch Hitachi Projection TV set !

1080 I Native resolution -- oooooh!

ATSC Tuner -- Ohhhhhh!

Hi Def Pip! -- Ahhhhh!

Component ! HDMI ! and a fully blown remote that will LET YOUR FINGERS RUN man!!!

See, you don't have to pay thru the nose for 1080P LCD or DLP or Plasma....you just want 1080 Native Resolution Display......and projection TVs provide the high resolution that you want and need.....

And....it's a well known, well supported BRAND NAME with good reliability....

And....you can buy it at Best Buy or Circuit City.......

Broken TV, Magnavox 50 inch. High pitched chirping sound. TV screen wont turn on at all when power in turn on.

Hello this question goes out to all the TV technicians out there. My name is Ricky and stupidly of me and in order to show off to my girlfriend, I told her that I could fix her TV. She has a Magnavox 50 inch TV. From what she tells me at first the bottom of the screen was looking bad, from left to right I believe. And now the TV doesn’t turn on. When you push the power button all you get is like a chirping sound. The chirping sound is on and off. It makes the chirping sound like every three seconds. The chirping sound last like one second. The TV doesn’t turn on at all though. I believe it is the power supply. I have found the device that is making the sound. Should I try replacing it? Please help TV technicians. I am a fool in need of help.

P.S I do know a little about electronics. I know of capacitors, inductors, diodes, transistors, microprocessors, power supplies, inductors, etc. I have taken some electronic courses while in high school and at my local community college.

Broken TV, Magnavox 50 inch. High pitched chirping sound. TV screen wont turn on at all when power in turn on.
Somehow I can't help but think that you have a shorted Horizontal Output Transistor (H.O.T.). It's easily replaceable if you can identify which transistor is the H.O.T. (BTW, it's usually installed with a heatsink if you care to look). If you decide to replace it yourself then DO NOT USE A GENERIC REPLACEMENT!!!!!! Using some cheap knockoff is likely to not do the job and you'll just be wasting money. Insist on using only the genuine Magnavox part number.

Tv Tuner Card Question?

I was in the market for a TV Tuner card and I wanted to know some things before I made a purchase. I have cable internet right now but we use Satellite TV for watching TV. If i hook up the coaxial cable in my room to the TV Tuner in my computer will I still get some tv? Cable TV is no longer used in our house so im not sure if ill get a signal.

Thanks for the help

Tv Tuner Card Question?
Without the cable tv option you won't get a signal for your tv tuner, but if you can run an extra line from your satellite to your tuner you should be able to get the basic satellite channels.
Reply:You won't get tv from your cable because you need to subscribe to the cable tv service.

TV vs. live communication with your family?

What to do when your family members spend all their free time in front a TV and when you suggest you spend some time together often reply with invitation to watching TV with them??! I am frustrated how much time is being wasted on some impersonal TV crap, but it is too late to change two grown up adults. Is there an explanation why they need this stupid TV all the time and how not to get angry with this situation?

In my own house we sold a TV and only keep a DVD player for movies and we watch/read news online, but when I am visiting parents, and they watch their huge TV... I get very upset every time!

TV vs. live communication with your family?
I feel ya sistah. I live a couple states away from my family. They never visit and often complain that I don't visit them.

When I do, its dinner and a few minutes of convo before tv. Pisses me off. I can watch tv at home.

I don't have tv, either. I have a dvd player and a PS2. When you come visit me, you sit around and talk, but the truth is my friends and I have something to talk about.

The members of my family are fairly boring ppl. They don't really have much to discuss and aren't very aware of much either. I think trying to talk to me is boring to them b/c they aren't aware of things like current events or science or really anything that isn't on a top 40 radio station or prime time tv. Ppl are mentally lazy these days. They just want to go do their job, get stuff at MalWart and turn on the tv to turn off their brain.

Your family is like that and probably doesn't understand why you would burden yourself by not joining them.

The only solution I've ever found is board or card games. Easy ones, of course, remember that they don't want to have to think too much and learn new ones.
Reply:we have the same problem!

my parents spend their hole time in the tv room!

i hate that room %26amp; the worst thing is they want me to be with them while i'm home %26amp; when i'm in my own room they are sad!!!

i think we cant do enything . Tv is more powerfull tha us
Reply:Watching tv together is a safe activity, there are no arguments, no emotional output required, everyone just sits there.

If your really concerned, talk to your family, tell them its important that you do family things together, without the tv.
Reply:No, there's not a thing to do. To say otherwise would be rude. Have them to your house for meals.

Connecting lcd tv, dvd player and a 5.1 Videologic surround system?

I would like to connect the surround 5.1 system to my dvd player and tv so that the sound from tv, whether watching normal digital freeview or dvd/cd playbacks, comes out of the surround speakers system. I have connected the dvd player to my tv receiver via a scart works perfectly fine with sound through the tv speakers. Subwoofer has a digital coaxial (referred to as "digital dvd") which I can connect to the dvd's digital coaxial. What I find confusing, subwoofer also has RCA phono (white-L/red-R) sockets which it refers to as input analog. Have read in references that the lead (white and red) should be connected from the subwoofer to the tv's (white and red) "AUDIO OUT". My tv only has RCA phono sockets (L and R) but "AUDIO IN". Will it make any difference if I connected the RCA phono lead from subwoofer to tv using the "AUDIO IN"?

Assuming this is the right way to connect, will this automatically mute the volume on my tv or do I have to just turn it down manually?

Connecting lcd tv, dvd player and a 5.1 Videologic surround system?
If you do not have Audio-Out or Digital-out on your TV, you can not connect your TV to the Surround system. Unless you use cable or satellite - then you can connect the box to the surround system.

But it is wierd that a modern LCD TV would not have audio output of some kind - analog or digital. What is an exact model of your TV?

DVD connection is straight forward - digital out to digital in.

TV turn-on automatically and volume goes up without nobody touching it..?

I have had two incidents on the TV in my bed room.. A few years ago, my father was staying with me and i gave him my bed room.. in the middle of the night the TV automatically turn-on and freaked him out..

The same thing happened a few days ago. A friend was staying with me and I gave him my bedroom. He said the TV turned up and the volume kept going up... He was freaked out...

I checked the alarm on the TV and the wake up timer and it doesn't look like that's the cause...

Is there a scientific explanation or is my room haunted and doesnt' like other people sleeping there? LOL.. really though.. I'm just curious how this can happen.. It never happens when its me sleeping in the room... The TV is a DaeWoo from 10 years ago.. Yes, I need a new TV but i want to understand this thing too..

TV turn-on automatically and volume goes up without nobody touching it..?
The most logical explanation is as already suggested: the remote of the house next door affected your TV. I don't real out the possibility of being "haunted", but I have no proof for myself that "haunting" exists.
Reply:How close are you to another house? Possible someone has one of those Universal remotes, and has programmed it to work on your TV. Just one possibility...
Reply:they lie in the remote and u dont. Simple answer or they lie to freak u out.

FREE TV Series downloads with the link, please, answer only and only you actually downloaded them for FREE,tx.

Does anybody has the list of available FREE TV Series downloads with links. You miss a show, you can jump on your computer and get it there. Experience only, please (if YOU actually downloaded a TV Series episode and watched it for FREE).

Do not answer this question just to give me useless links because you happened to search the internet (I can do that too). Answer it if you actually downloaded and watched a full episode of a TV series. I do not want any youtube answers (good videos there but no free TV Series). I do not want those tv.org or tv-all-free-com answers which are those numerous sites that get you to the exact same window which is a dead end, just collecting your personnal infos getting there. Can’t you see a scam when you see one? Also peekvid can be nice when you actually get something if the quality image is not too bad…And also, please, no tv.com answers, very nice site but for downloads, they just connect you to sites like itunes where you have to pay that $1.99.

FREE TV Series downloads with the link, please, answer only and only you actually downloaded them for FREE,tx.
I do not think there’s a list anywhere…unless you manage to make one with the answers you get!

You’re right, people with their own experience should just share the infos about their favorite shows and where they manage to get the downloads for free online.

A lot of people, just realizing they just missed their favorite TV show, ask where to find free TV Series episodes downloads so they can watch it on their computer the next day or the day after that…and I am amazed, that even the Best Answers I read about free downloads are really about links that goes nowhere or at least do not provide the free access to full episodes of anything. People sometimes gives answers according to what they find doing research on the internet but they did not do any follow up so it goes nowhere.

So I have no list but I have two experiences I would like to share with you:

First experience: Prison Break: I missed the beginning last Monday (the 02/26/07 episode) and I watched it yesterday for free on my computer at the following link:

http://creative.myspace.com/VOD/prison_b...

You will notice that it is a Fox show but you cannot find the free download on fox.com but on myspace.com

(put the name of the show in the Search line and click on the first site results, just after the sponsored links). The most recently-aired episodes (the last 3 to 5) are available online there for free. They also have other Fox shows like 24

http://www.myspace.com/548565

Bones

http://www.myspace.com/2100102

They even have the last episode of “til Death” in case you missed it and cannot sleep anymore…lol

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fus...

Back in December, I missed a Prison Break episode but I did not know about myspace.com having the free downloads (I learned that yesterday by reading a Yahoo! News article about watching TV online and I clicked on a link there for myspace) so back in December I went to Amazon.com (my favorite online place to buy stuff) where I paid $1.99 for that Prison Break episode for a very lengthily download (hours…) from Amazon with the Unbox Video Download. It was a bad experience and I got my money back (my $1.99 that is).

Yesterday, I went on myspace and “Prison Break” was free and fast, even if you have to wait a minute every 10 minutes for the next part to load (plus that annoying ad about whatever, I don’t know, I pushed the mute button during those but I guess they’re the one paying).

So, on one hand, you can pay for it, $1.99 and you get the whole thing with no ad but hours of downloading and on the other hand, it is free with an interruption every 10 minutes for downloading and ads.

Second experience: Heroes (Mondays, 9pm NBC). I love that show but I usually watch the repeats on SCI on Fridays at 7pm (better time for me) but for an unknown reason, they did not repeat them in February so I missed them on NBC (luckily, they will repeat last Monday’s episode tomorrow Friday 03/02 on SCI) so I had to watch them online during February at:

http://www.nbc.com/Video/rewind/full_epi...

nbc.com also have full episode of things I do not watch like “The Black Donnellys” or “Friday Night Lights”. On the other hand, I missed an episode or ER and all they have is sad little Two-Minute Replays, not full episodes…

(can anybody give me the secret link to a full episode free download of ER?)

And those are my only two experiences but I know you can get FREE TV download of episodes at abc.com because I sampled them. Eight of them are available for free on abc.com

http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/land...

Desperate Housewives and Lost, which are shows I watch and Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Brothers %26amp; Sisters, What about Brian, The Knights of Prosperity and Men in Trees which are shows I do not watch.

I hope I’m on your list.

HD TV for $500 or less?

I need a new TV (old one died). I'd like the screen to be around 27".

I could buy a 6-month old Sharp 27" standard definition digital TV on Craigslist for $175. Or I could buy a new HD TV for more (new or on Craigslist).

What do you recommend? (1) Get the cheap TV and wait a few years for HD TV prices to come down? (2) Spend $450 on an 18-month old 32" Samsung HD TV? or (3) Spend $560 on a new Westinghouse 26" HD TV (on sale currently at Best Buy)?

Thanks.

HD TV for $500 or less?
A floor model might be a good option, although you need to realize that they may suffer from screen burn depending on the signal they displayed, and how long they were used in the store (mostly plasmas).

I would recommend against spending any more than $100 on a standard definition tv, as most won't have a digital tuner which will be required in the next few years.

If you only have those 3 options, I would recommend buying new (with warranty) and getting the HDTV, although I would recommend going for a 32" model if you can afford it.
Reply:none! go to circuit city and ask to but the floor model. my parents just did that for a 52" plasma and got it for $325. good luck bro.
Reply:I just bought a 32" Vizio LCD HDTV at Walmart for $597 and it has a really great picture, they also have lower prices for other LCD brands.

My Tv has power, but it won't start up can anyone help?

My Tv broke down this morning, there is power, but when i switch on the

tv the tv comes on for about a second and goes off before the picture

can appear. The standby light keeps on flashing when i try to switch on the tv.If anyone can help that would be great

My Tv has power, but it won't start up can anyone help?
Make - model etc please

Added: Either the tube has gone or you have a dry solder joint somewhere in or around the power supply. I suspect that the tube has gone though - Sanyo's are not very well renowned for this but, I had the same prob with my Sanyo TV and it was the tube - not worth repairing to be honest - the cost of replacing the tube is outweighed by the cost of a new LCD TV

I'll be honest - I do not like Sanyo products - I have had three Sanyo TV's (replaced under warranty) and Sanyo DVD and Video - All have died and been a complete waste of money - they never seem to get them right and fall a long way behind the other company's
Reply:It sounds like the tube has gone inside the t.v. Yes mine still had power! when mine went at first i got a flash of a picture then i got nothing, but the standby button light up so it still had power.

Take t to the shop and get it looked at then you will know if its worth fixing or getting a new one. How old is it? are you still under warranty?

Connecting iPod to TV troubles!!!?

I recently received a 5th gen iPod classic (video) and got the idea that i may be able to watch my videos and pictures on the TV. So I research what's involved in doing that, finding out that I don't need a special cable to do it. All I needed was an RCA cable with the headphone jack, which I already had. I also learned that when plugging in the RCA to the tv, there was a special format to it - Red-Yellow, Yellow-White, White-Red - or whatever. I set my iPod to TV Out - On and TV Signal - NTSC, but whenever I try to play the video with the iPod connected, I still get this screen with a picture of the iPod base plug that says "TV Out Enabled, Please Connect Video Accessory"!!!!!!!

I've tried everything and am now extremely frustrated!! I've even tried turning the TV to channels 3 and 4, and going on the AV1 and AV2 channels, but nothing will work! Can anyone please tell me if there's anything else I can do or if there's something I'm doing wrong?!

Connecting iPod to TV troubles!!!?
You Can't Conect An Ipod To A tv like my one is an mp3 player instead of and ipod the same can't watch videos!

Can digital tv signal converters be made to work for TV-band radios?

I listen to TV. I don't watch it. Can my TV radios (radios that get TV channels) be made to get digital channels via the digital TV signal converters that are being sold now?

I assume not directly, but what if I purchase a couple things from Radio Shack? ...even if it's not pretty...

Can digital tv signal converters be made to work for TV-band radios?
If you can connect the RF output of the converter to the RF input of the radio, it will work. You'll have to set the radio to channel 3 or 4.

But why bother. Just use the audio outputs from the converter directly to an amplified speaker, like a computer speaker set.
Reply:I don't think it'll work.
Reply:You will have to connect it to the TV at some point in order to program it to receive your local channels. The boxes have no displays on the front to allow you to know if you are receiving a channel or if it is waiting for some other menu item to be processed. You would need the TV to assess the signal quality as well.

Basically out of the box the converter is not ready to operate until it is connected to a properly aimed antenna and the channels are scanned into its memory. This is because the FCC choose to make the digital major channel number match the analog channel number instead of just tuning in the actual channel assignment. If they had stuck with actual channels you could just tune each channel one by one and it would pick up all the signals as with an un-programmed analog TV with a channel 2 through 69 tuner. With the analog tuner (unless the manufacturer forced the set to memorize the channels) you could tune in channels 2, 6, 9, 18, 24, 35, 43, 52, 56, 65, and 68 manually by starting on 2 and seeing a lot of static and you pushed the up channel button to get to 6, then to 9, then to 18 and so on. But with the digital converter box the tuner up channel button does nothing and tunes in nothing without the channels being memorized. This is because the channels assigned for digital might be 11, 58, 39, 17, 23, 22, and so on. You see those are not in order. But complaints from some of the owners of the transmitters made the FCC put those channels in order so that the primary program on each of those channels results in the following number scheme on the digital receivers and converter boxes (as least the ones made after the change in the law): 2.1, 6.1, 9.1, 18.1 and so on. And any additional programs results in the tuner actually tuning in the following order 2.1, 2.2, 6.1, 6.2, 9.1, 9.2, 18.1, 24.1, 24.2. 24.3, 24.4, 24.5 and so on. The minor numbers after the decimal represent the programs available on each transmitter.

So you could program a converter box with a TV and move it quickly to another location (if unplugging it does not wipe its memory right away). You would want to use the audio output to feed a ampilified speaker with a RCA input such as a stereo system or use computer speakers with adapters to go from RCA male on the converter box to mini phone female stereo connector for the mini phone male connector of the computer speakers to connect to.

LCD TV's and store warrenties?

Bought an LCD TV 14 months ago and the sales rep told me 1 year warranty and I have to buy extended warranty. Tell him don't have to buy anything I dont need. Well in month 14 the TV stopped workjing. Went to the store and was toldI should bought the extended warranty coz its now outta the 1 year warranty and need to get it to a repair shop and pay myself. There is nothing they can do. Phone arounf and no repair shop wants to repair as they say its not worth it. I have a bit of knowledge on electronics and now what do I have to loose, I open and see if there are any fuses, but no it has voltage switches etc. I try google the TV to attempt to repair. Guess what the TV has a 3 year warranty, not 1 year as stated by the store and my warranty is screwed. Do I have a claim against the store for misrepresentation?

LCD TV's and store warrenties?
call the manufacture of the TV, also call your state atty, general
Reply:I bet you you bought it from us (Best Buy). Yeah we mostly assume that all the tvs have a 1yr limited warranty. Its uncommon to come with a 3yr. As for your question, you could sue them for that but you would probably loose the case since it is probably in the owners manual and probably on the box. I visited that site that is against Best Buy and the main guy won his case but it lasted a couple of weeks and such.
Reply:You cannot hold the store liable for any claims of misrepresentation....

While they may THINK it has a one year warranty, that comes from the FACT that most TV sets only have a one year warranty....

You should look at the instruction manual and warranty cards that they provided you with. It gives you the TRUTH about your warranty.

2009 digital tv.?

Ok the Govt makes TV go digital. To help the people who can't afford digital Tv's or do not want to get rid of the analog Tv's, they spend millions to give discount cards (40 dollars) which I recieved mine today. NOW when everything finally does go digital the cable companys will have the right to raise the subscription fees because all digital programming will cost them more.

So let me try to sum this up. Govt wastes money on the gift cards and now we will have to pay more for the digital programming. Funny thing is if you opted to keep analog equipment you will be paying higher price for more and better features you will not be able to use. BUT you can say you got your 1-2 converter boxes a little cheaper :). How nice!

Why can't these gift cards be used towards converter boxes or towards the price of a new DIGITAL TV? Stupid if you ask me. Write your congressman or women and find out why the department of commerce will not allow us to apply 40 dollars towards a new tv!

2009 digital tv.?
Because that would be intelligent and look who is running the program!
Reply:So, just because someone shares YOUR opinion means anyone else's answer is BS??!?!?!

Now THAT is some BS!! Report It

Reply:OK, let's clear up one misconception right now, if you have cable, you don't need a digital box, unless you want to watch those station in the triple digits, since the cable company is taking care of that and no that does not give the cable companies to raise rates, as far as paying extra for extra service, that is up to you, if you want that extra service then go for it, then you will be paying more. But if you are just getting the box because of digital and you are on cable don't even bother with the box.
Reply:First off, you don't have to have the converter box if you use a cable box.

Second, not all cable companies are broadcasting in digital in all areas. I have Charter and they are not broadcasting in digital where I live.

Lastly, a friend of mine has one of the satellite providers and they charge $10 extra for sending their signal in HD.

In the end, its all about the almighty dollar...There are no caps put on the satellite or cable companies and they can charge what they want to and the public suffers. We don't get all the channels we want and the prices keep going up and up...

Guess they figure this going digital deal will appease the masses for a while.

My tv gets all pixelated whenever the microwave gets turned on. Why? Can someone help me fix that?

I have direct tv. At first it was the tv in the livingroom that only did this (not including bad weather.) My parents call direct tv and (from what my parents told me) all we needed was a filter and the people from direct tv gave us one. Now my tv does it and its the only tv in the house that gets all pixelated when the mircowave, dryer or vacuum is on. Sometimes none of the earlier items would be active and it still gets all pixelated. We removed the filter from the livingroom and put on my tv and it still doesn't help, while the tv in the livingroom works just fine without the filter. What's up with that? Am I just cursed to be tormented by technology or is there something simple that I can do to fix it?

My tv gets all pixelated whenever the microwave gets turned on. Why? Can someone help me fix that?
the two items might be on the same circut run, so when the microwave is on, its drawing too many amps, so messing up the tv......try putting the moicrowave in another room and give it a test try
Reply:When I had Direct TV, my tv did the same thing... I just accepted it. Good Luck.
Reply:Go down to local electronics store and buy a power filter... It will help with any static in your lines.

My TV gives me tingles from the AV grounds. Outlet OK. TV replaced.?

Hi, please help...my TV gives me tingles from the AV grounds. I assume this means there is a voltage on the TV chassis. This happens with the TV plugged in to the wall, and nothing else connected to the TV (just power). This voltage gets passed on to anything else that I connect to the TV. If I connect my sat rcvr. with RCA plugs, and touch the metal chassis of my sat rcvr, I can feel the tingle. This goes away if I disconnect it from my TV. I suspected a bad outlet wiring, so I bought a 3-prong outlet tester, but it says the outlet is correct. I brought the TV back (Olevia 42" LCD) and changed it for a new one, and I still have the same problem!

Any ideas of what I can try (short of the obvious, calling an electrician)? I have a multimeter, if that helps, and am knowledgeable on electronics.

Thanks!!

My TV gives me tingles from the AV grounds. Outlet OK. TV replaced.?
Set your Voltmeter to an AC voltage scale higher than 150AC and measure the voltage between the Ground(round hole) and each of the slotted holes.

If the outlet is wired correctly, you should see approx. 120vac between the ground (round hole) and the "SMALLER" of the two slots.

Between the ground and the larger slot, you should measure less than "ONE" volt.

If you see 120VAC from the larger slot, then the outlet needs to have the the Black (Hot) and White (Neutral) wires reversed.

If the outlet is wired correctly and you measure more than "ONE Volt AC" from the larger slot, than you have a poor or no Ground connection "Dangerous" between the Neutral (White wire) and your Circuit Breaker Panels' internal House Ground Buss Bar.

Finally, did you have another (different brand) TV with Video/Audio jacks plugged into the same outlet and experienced the same problem? If so, fix the AC problem or stop walking around bare footed on a wet floor.

If not, then buy a different brand TV!!!

Good Luck!
Reply:I would recommend a power conditioner like the Belkin PF40 to help clear that up. It could be a strange loop between the electronics on the same phase in the house, but without looking at everything in the house, it's hard to say.

A power conditioner will help get rid of the ground loops and help isolate each circuit as well as provide top notch true surge protection for expensive electronics.
