Tv licensing?

good afternoon, basically my question today is about tv licensing, if i disconnect the tv aerial and do not use the tv can i cancel my tv licensing, or do i have to discontinue use of other equipment such as computers with or without broadband , radios etc

please define what and what not i can use if i wish to stop having a tv license.

Tv licensing?
OK, if you do away with your Licence then you need to remove the TV arial, and detune any TV channels.

You can still use your radio, and you can still use your TV to watch pre recorded DVD / VHS tape. (You can't get your mum to record Emmerdale, and then watch the tape at yours though.)

You are safe to use your Broadband for browsing, however you can't use it to stream TV services.

When the TV Licensing contact you, ring and explain what you have done and ask if there are any further steps they would like you to take. They are just doing their job after all. Put their minds at rest that you aren't evading the fee, just opting not to watch TV.
Reply:Not paying a TV licence only stops you using a TV set.......all other things like radio, computers, broadband Etc are not affected.
Reply:Your TV licence only permits you to use your tv, therefore if you cancel it, it means only that you can no longer legally watch tv. How it might apply to the new trend for watching tv on your computer, I don't know, but certainly there is a website you can check with. As far as I know you can not renew your licence, but I don't think you can get a refund. If you pay by direct debit, before you cancel, you need to ensure that all the licence you have used until now has been paid for as licences are paid in part up front. If it has, you can just cancel your direct debit, but I don't know if you will get any money back if you are already paying towards your new licence. Radios and computers have nothing to do with your licence. Be aware though, that if you switch on your tv at all, even without the aerial, you are still watching illegally and could easily be caught and fined a lot of money.
Reply:You need to remove any equipment from your house that can recieve TV sinals including video recorders etc.
Reply:Technically the TV license is not to pay for the BBC, it's to pay for the priviledge of using your TV. They just choose to pay the BBC....

So you would be fine using everything other than your TV.
Reply:Basically, if you don't want to pay for a tv license, you cannot turn on your tv. You can always check their website anyway, this will clear things up for you.
Reply:If you get rid of your TV licence, get rid of your TV too, don't just disconnect the aerial.

Some friends of mine never had a TV, and didn't want one, but it didn't stop the TV Licensing people knocking on their door every couple of months to find out why they didn't have a licence. They even got a warrant to search the premises for TV receiver equipment. So its probably best not to have anything in your home, in case they think you have just unplugged it, and then they fine you!
Reply:its a receiver license, so whatever format you receive TV.

(cable, satellite, Internet, analogue) etc you still need the license
Reply:you cannot use a tv, but i think you can use the internet
Reply:you don't need a tv licence to use computers etc.

I have a feeling you can get away with it if the tv cannot receive tv transmissions, ie if you disconnect the aerial.
